I have started having pain in the right side of my neck towards the back. Between the spine and area where my ear is. This is causing sleepless nights. I have tried lortab 7.5 x2 last night with no relief it allowed a little more rom but no relief to the pain. Also this pain is making it now difficult to swallow. It feels like a lump very deep in the back side of neck. If I touch my neck I can not palpate the muscle to help because It feels much deeper and heat did not help either. The difficulty in swallowing is odd because my throat is not sore in the least just this lump feeling in the area where the pain is coming from in the back area of my neck. Plz Help

neck problems could mean anything from a mere sore throat to strep throat to menanjitis. I'd suggest you immediately go to either the grocery store doctor (some grocery stores have them now) or to a pharmacist (like at Walgreens) and ask your question. Sometimes, and more and more now, there are over-the-counter or under-the-counter medicines you can take without seeing a doctor. But let the pharmacist decide if it is menanjitis or not. If it is then immediately go to the emergency room.

This situation could be caused by a cyst, tumor, or pouch that has developed in the esophagus and is trapping food. All of these require medical attention.

You need to see your doctor and have them refer you to a neurologist. Possibly could be Arnold Chiari.
