If you want to make sure he's getting proper nutrition, then why not feed him a high quality dog food? Or at very least, mix it in with what you're giving him...

How much is your dog supposed to weigh? That would effect how much food you need to give him. Talk to your vet and they will let you know what else he should need.

I feed my dogs a high quality dry dog food and mix in a high quality wet food or canned pumpkin or mashed sweet potato (for regularity). And I will occasionally make food for them to add to their dry food, just depends on what's in my budget or what time constraints I'm under for the week.

You can feed your dog very well and healthily on a homemade diet, I have several friends from Europe who are living in the States and they never buy commercial dogfood and when they were living in Europe, they didn't buy it there either.

below is one website I like to use.

Chicken and Rice is great for dogs, and really good for their coats. My vet recommends it also lamb and rice. Chicken and rice is great when they have diarrhea too i give it to my dogs frequently cause they have sensitive stomachs and its much cheeper then buying prescription dog food all the time.

With chicken make sure its boneless breasts, chicken bones are bad for dogs
