Assuming money is no object, what is the finest, best quality home stereo name brand out there? I remember when Carver was considered the best of the best some time ago, but what about now, in 2007-8?Thank you for your input.

If you are looking for bling and the "cool factor" - Bang & Oluffsen is very slick but they are not even close to the best quality - especially the speakers that come with their systems.
You can spend 10's of thousands on a stereo, but I personally believe that the last 1% of getting to the "best" costs 90% of the money. These are the "best" at a reasonable price:
Separate Electronics / Amps - Adcom, Krell, Pioneer Elite, NAD, Mark Levinson.
Recievers - If you are looking for the best receiver, I would say Onkyo or Yamaha.
Speakers - Paradigm, NHT, M & K, Martin Logan (wow, but expensive), KEF, Polk
Subwoofers - Velodyne, Definitive Technology, M & K, Paradigm

Depends, but I am guessing that (if you home stereo is decent enough) it should have a mini plug for external input. Just go to radio shack and tell them that you want a mini-male to mini-male...and tell them the length (6 feet and 10 feet are the standards). If you stereo doesn't have any such thing or if it is being used and if it has the two (white and red) connections, then go to radio shack and tell them you want a mini-male to dual-RCA-male and they will know exactly what you mean. After that, you will know what to do!
