What's so amazing about fulfilling prophecy that everybody knew about? It was the scripture of the Jews, after all, no? Anybody could fulfill prophecy if he already knew what was expected of him.
If one wanted to be a messiah, purposely fulfilling prophecies would be a good way to pull it off.

The old testament was not written about Jesus. The old testament is the holy book of the Jews. One of the main components of being Jewish is knowing/believing that Jesus is not the messiah. The new testament was written after the old testament, therefore making it very easy to manipulate the situations so that they sound like what the old testament was trying to say. For example, Jesus was born in Bethlaham yet he is called Jesus of Nazareth. There was no Nazareth at the time, but Nazareth sounds a lot like nazer. A nazer is someone who worked in the temple during the time of the old testament and had a very close connection to god. Perhaps to increase the feelings that Jesus was the messiah they said that he was from nazareth.
Basically, Jesus did not fulfill those prophecies but rather his work was manipulated to look as though he did.

I think that the authors of the NT were very versed in the OT as well, therefore unless there was independant confirmation, the "fulfillment" of prophecy is suspect. This would be true even if the gospels had been written by eyewitnesses.
Also consider that many Jews do not agree that those are the Messianic prophecies.

Same thing that I think of the rest of the book, more mistranslated bollock that has been altered over time.
Not to mention, Jesus was NOT the only man "prophisized" during that time.

Go watch the movie Zeitgeist. While the whole story is retarded, the beginning makes the best point that shows that Jesus's facts... match those of most prophets across the times.
I just ONCE would love someone to explain God to me without mentioning the bible and relying on "faith-based" facts. Anyone can write a book and preach it as truth.

Unfortuantely for you you could no longer coach A) whilst the previous testomony grew to become into written B) whilst the recent testomony grew to become into written C) That Jesus surely existed So no, no longer checkmate. that's similar to asserting that Harry Potter might desire to be actual simply by fact he fulfils the prophecy written in the Order of the Phoenix

So you've got an old book that said some things would happen, and then many, many years later somebody wrote another book that said those things did in fact happen; and then the two books got mashed together into one. Seems pretty clear to me.
Given that there's no real independant confirmation of the events described in the new testament, you'd have to take the bible's word for it - and that's circular reasoning.

I think the bible is a self fulfilling prophecy, much like the Harry Potter books.

It's like when Back to the Future II fulfilled the prophecy at the end of Back to the Future, when they said the story would be continued.

Religions produce a lot of mental illnesses and waste of time. If children believe there is a God, why do adults have to add the religious part to it? All religions enslave the believer in one way or another, and distract you through rituals, customs, and meetings from doing all the best you can for you and others. Because doing good to others: family, poor, anyone in need, is for God much more than anything else.
Religions limit you; even Judaism, where you are told to make questions and to "free" yourself, they expect you to make the "right" questions, and to be "free" as they expect you to be free.

Those who wrote the New Testament were aware of the Old Testament prophecies, and wrote the story of Jesus so it would fit in with them.
