I suppose it could be psychologically addictive. One likes the food, so one keeps eating it. Chcolate is also a common comfort food so it's something people might turn to it when they're not in a good mood, or even in a good mood. I still turn to chocolate when I'm bummed, in a good mood, or just want "something". I have some yummy sugar free dark chocolate in my fridge and I buy chocolate soy milk. This way, if I'm wanting something, I'm not being totally "bad". I also buy all-natural chocolate chip granola bars from Trader Joe's that I snack on, too.

I can't say for sure, but I think I've heard that there is "something" in chocolate that is actually scientifically addictive, maybe the caffeine or something. (When I was reminded that chocolate has caffeine in it, I cut back when I was pregnant, especially if I had had coffee that day. I cut back on having a four cup pot of coffee every day to half decaf, half regular a few times a week.)

I'm sorry I couldn't have been of more help. I think this is an interesting subject and will pop back in later for any more answers.

Psychological addiction is possible. Physical addiction is not. You can crave it, but won't have any physical illness if you don't get it.

Google this tidbit on chocolate to get the exact date. At one time the Catholic Church banned the eating of Chocolate, claimed it was the Devils Food. The reason:

Back during the Conquistador days, a group of nuns came to the new world and spent so much time processing and eating chocolate they failed to administer to their church duties.

Yes chocolates are addictive. This is because cacao from which chocolates are made contains an alkaloid called "Theobromine" which is analogous to Caffein in coffee and tea. This alkaloid is known to stimulate the brain and has addictive properties.

I would say, yes...I routinely eat atleast one small candy bar a day, immediately after dinner. I am miserable if I don't get it.
