I have this woman calling every day demanding to speak to the owner of the company. When I ask what it is regarding, she gives me the company name (which I have never heard of). Then I ask what it is regarding, she asks me if I am the owner or co owner. She has not gotten through to the "owner" any day this month, why does she continue to call me and be rude to me? Does she actually think being rude will get her a sale? There are just some days I hate my job.

Yeah, If I put the call through to the boss, I would get fired. My bosses hired me to make sure solicitors don't get through and clients do. Or else there would be an automated receptionist. Its hard to explain these things to her when I have clients who do pay my salary calling on other lines.

As someone who calls business in a tele-marketing role, I can say that she MUST be new... relistically, anyone who has been in the business long enough to find sucess, knows that the admins and operators are the gatekeepers to our paychecks... Please don't think we are all like that. Some of us actually respect the position you hold.

A suggestion though (if you haven't already told her this) I would explain that Mr. Boss doesn't take unsolicited calls and if you could deliver a message about what this is regarding, he might be more amenable to taking her call. Short of that, Request to be -placed on the DNC (Do not call) list... that will stop the calls. If she won't, ask for her supervisor... there's no reason to be rude to ANYONE, no matter what kind of day you are having and she should be held accountable for that.

Again, this is what I do for a lliving, so I guess a part of me resents those that are telling you to put yourself in her shoes... and that she has a crappy job...etc. Any job is what you make of it - you have the power to make even the crappiest of jobs a good experience.

Yes I have had the same type of people who call my work also.. I wouldn't put the call through, and tell them to stop calling and they the same thing, well are you an owner or co-owner, I say no and they keep calling.. So now I have my boss, the owner, take the calls and he quickly tells them to stop calling and they do.

She's missed the #1 rule - be nice to the receptionist or you won't get anywhere!

Ask her to stop calling. Tell her you're not interested in what they're selling, and ask to be removed from their list.

She should have done her research to find out the owners name if that's who she wants to speak to.
I had the same thing happen to me before.
Why they are rude...God only knows. It doesn't get them anywhere.

Has it ever occured to you to put yourself in her place? This is her job,it puts food on her table, you are preventing her from talking to the only person who has the authority to give her the sale. If you are the go between and you haven't heard her out how can you be sure the boss doesn't want to talk to her. Change your attitude toward her and she will be nicer to you.
When someone is rude there is usually a underlying cause.

explain to her, that the owner is not in the building and you will be happy to take her information, the owner does not take calls from unknown callers and if he is interested in your product, he will return your call. and say it very nicely.

Maybe she is just stressed out and wants to take out out somebody else. Sometimes I get urges to act like a grump towards strangers when I feel grumpy.
