You do need to drill it. Actually, answering questions on YA is one way to do it - it gets you to exercise those cognitive network connections in your brain. You should also pick a language or musical instrument or hobby and keep learning something new all the time. The learning portions of the brain are one of the areas that also need to be "worked out." Learning does tend to get a little slower as we age, but it still works. Be patient and study hard. You can also do crossword puzzles of increasing difficulty - teach someone else something. You need some cobhitive exercise. If you want to just remember names or something like that, there are books for that.

The best way to improve a memory is to stimulate it daily. Read, do puzzles, if you're into artsy things - play the piano, paint, whatever. But the important thing is, not to just sit around and let it go to waste. Take some classes, etc. Stimulate, stimulate, stimulate. Remember, we do not regenerate brain cells. Once they are dead, they're gone. So stimulate the ones you have so they're nice and welcome. Studies have proven that if we stimulate them, they like to stay around a little longer. Good luck!
