Believe means to trust in, cling to and rely on someone.

To believe in Jesus is more than mere mental assent.

Back in the early 1900's, a famous tightrope walker from France put on a demonstration by crossing the Niagara Falls on a rope.

He walked forward, he walked backward, he hopped along the rope, and even skipped, each time the audience "ooo'ed
and "ahhhh'ed" at his feats of daring. He even rode a unicycle across.

As his final series of acts, he pushed a wheelbarrow across, first empty, then with bricks, and other heavy objects.

Before his finale, he went to the microphone and asked if the audience believed that he could carry a living person across in the wheelbarrow.

The crowd went into an uproar with a resounding "YES!!!!!"

Then he asked for a volunteer, and the crowd became deadly silent.

Nobody actually "believed" that he could do it - not a single volunteer.

Jesus asks us, "Do you think I can take care of you, provide for you, meet all of your needs, and then get you to heaven?"

We all shout "YES!!!".

DO you believe in Him? Or is it just all words? Now He's asking you to "get into the wheelbarrow".

THAT is what it means to believe in God. Trust in God in the same way that a paratrooper trusts his parachute!

If this is part of a homework assignment, you will need to cite your work and say where you got this story from, but unfortunately, I heard it MANY years ago from an evangelist by the name of Winkie Pratney, and I don't know where he got it from, so just say that you read the story in Yahoo Questions.

I think that many of us are more aware of what faith based belief can cause because of 9/11 now.

So as a result, we are a little more vocal about the dangers of Faith above reason.

Believing in God now is more dangerous than ever.

Same as it's always been. A nonexistence deity to be responsible for everything we don't understand...yet.
