There are thousands of different strains of the cold virus. Does catching one make you immune from the others, while it lasts?

Technically at least there is nothing to stop you getting more that one viral illness at a time. However, when we get any virus our immune system switches up a gear and begins to throw out all the antibodies it knows how to make, so the response to the second virus would be even more rapid.

It is possible to pick up a new virus while still ill with the first one, and it might even make you feel more miserable than before. Unfortunately, immunity to one cold germ doesn't confer immunity to others- which is why there is no cold vaccine yet.

If someone with a cold comes into your house, the best thing to do is confine the sick person and go nuts with the hygiene and cleanliness.

When we talk about "catching a cold" we're talking about becoming infected with a cold virus. Technically, it is possible to become infected with two different strains of the cold virus at once but it is very doubtful that that will make your symptoms worse.

I hope this helps!

You are weak after one cold and can catch one after the other, I think the others lay in wait for you to get better from the first one as I have just had two over the last two weeks and am not better yet so am probably on my third. A cold only lasts for four days or so, so people who say "I have had this cold for three weeks" have had two or three, not one long one!

that's a really good question actually - I dont know! I think you'd probably just end up with a prolonged cold with a few different strains thrown in.
I have heard that once you've had one type of cold virus you can never catch that same one again

id say you can if you are unlucky enough. i dont think you would feel twice as bad but it would last twice as long.
