I'm embarrassed to say I have found a couple of cans of pumpkin in my pantry. They are different brands, and I only purchase this at Thanksgiving. That means one can is at least 1 year old...and one is probably 2 years old!!! Should I just bite the bullet and chuck it in the trash, or is it still okay?

can food gets retorted which means that it is sterilized inside the can after it was sealed, which means if it was good when it was first canned, then it will be good in 2, 6, even 10 years from now. The food will be fine, but if you are worried about it then just buy new ones, what it would set you back maybe 5 bucks.

You didn't find an expiration date printed on the label?

Canned food is generally good for at least a couple of years. I just bought some pumpkin myself, and the expiration date on it is April 2008. Yours is probably okay... when you open it, if it doesn't smell good, TOSS.

Canned pumpkin goes bad when it has lost it's way in life, usually when it's been influenced by others. You need to be careful who your canned pumpkin is hanging around with.

oy, I'm so tired I need to go nigh nighs.

The cans should have a expiration date, look for date. If any you can't find it...you have two choices,,open the cans and check the content, (looking for color, texture, and smell) or just toss it...

Toss and get some newer cans, do not take a chance on the old stuff.

I wouldn't have thought so just once a fortnight; the beta carotene is very good for you.
