i have a 710 in .270 caliber not a 30-06. i like the rifle but i would like a little better quality scope. the gun shoots very well though, killed 12 deer with it between last and this season. for the price i would buy another regardless of the scope.

There's nothing "wrong" with the 710. It worth the money however you should replace the mounts.

The Stevens brand (the old savage rifles pre-accutrigger) has a manufacturer price of about $330 for the rifle. I think it will much more accurate than the remington.

I'm also hearing very good things about mossburg which is at the same price as well

my dad uses a 710 .270. it has been a good gun. he got a new scope for it, I actually mounted that scope on my 30-30. it isn't half bad. but in all actuality you should save the money and get a rem 700. on sale at big 5 for 419 right now with a scope. the 700 is a much more proven and tested rifle, not to mention if you ever wanted to up grade there are a plethora of accessories and parts for the 700.

I am going to have to agree with John B. The 700 model while a bit more expensive is a much higher quality rifle. It will last longer at the very least. Save about $300 more and pick up a Remingon 700 SPS and a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40. Trust me, you will be glad that you saved that extra couple hundred bucks.

The 700 SPS will run you around $450 (With a $30 mail in rebate right now I believe)or so and a prostaff will run your about $140 or so.

My moose hunting partner does. Good points; his is accurate, plastic stocks are tough, in-expensive rifle. short bolt lift.
Lesser points; the action isn't the smoothest I',ve worked. His clip spring broke while shooting a moose!!!
He heart shot the moose with the first shot anyways. He replaced the clip for $17 but required a 1 hour drive to get one.
Synopsis: Good accuracy for the price. Scope is decent.
Suggestions: Remington has improved the rifle and calls it the 770. Also, check out the Tikka T3. Soooooth action = better follow-up shots.

I have a model 700 30-06, with beautiful wood grain finish. It shoots as good as it looks and hasn't let me down yet. I would get a model 700 over the 710, but that's just me.

Before buying take a look at the Savage Brand.* Great rifle at a reasonable price.*
