I have a cat and one kitten(under 12 wks. old) and a 15 mo. old son. Our home has been taken over by these fleas and I'm about to lose my mind. Does anyone know of ANYTHING To kill these fleas w/o harming my family. Myson is on the floor constantly so I'd like something that will not hurt him or my new kitten. And Momma cat is also still nursing is it safe to use anything on her? Thank you all very much.

I think you need to get some advice from your vet here, many products are not suitable for kittens under 12 weeks old, and as your momma cat is still nursing, anything she ingests via the skin could potentially cause your little kitty some problems.

Just give the vets a call, I'm sure they will be more than happy to help. In the meantime, invest in a flea comb - it takes forever to get the buggers off but it's a start!!

Anything you can get from a vets will be both safe and effective. Frontline in particular is good for nursing mothers and kittens - the spot-on can be used on the mother, and the kitten if it's over 8 weeks of age. If it's under 8 weeks, it will need to be the spray version of Frontline, which can be used on kittens from 2 days of age.

All you need to do is keep your son away from the cat and kitten until the product has dried (so a few hours) and then he'll be fine. If you get the spot-on properly on the skin of the cat it will not even leave the greasy mark that people insist is unavoidable - I've perfected the no-grease leaving technique myself, by putting the stuff in at least 4 different places around the shoulder blades to make sure that NONE floods on to the fur!

NO! If your mother cat is still nursing, do NOT use anything like Frontline or Advantage on her. This stuff must work its way through the cats system, and WILL get into her milk supply. You CAN give her a bath with flea shampoo for CATS, then comb her out good with a flea comb. NOTE: When combing with the flea comb---have a good-sized piece of tape right next to you (duct tape works GREAT for this), and after several strokes of the flea comb, lay it on the tape and tap it---any remaining fleas, eggs, etc. will stick to the tape and can't get back into your home.

Now, for your home, itself: BORAX! You can get this in any grocery store in the laundry detergent aisle. Sprinkle it all over your carpeting, furniture, etc., and you MUST leave it on there for 3 or 4 days before thoroughly vacuuming up. This will NOT harm your 15 month old son or any other household pets, and it DOES work, believe me---I had an infestation a couple years ago, and this is exactly what I did---except I have a male neutered cat and I COULD use Frontline. Good luck with this--it WORKS!

Bob martin spot on isn't that good . You are better to use a good quality flea produce like frontline spot on . There range has one for cats and then different ones for dogs depending on size of dog. You would need to wait to use on dog if you have used another flea produce on him as you should never mix flea treatments on pets. You can get frontline from vets but it is cheaper on -line. If you pets have fleas it might be a good idea to treat the house as well with again another good quality produce. If you do a google search then you can check out the best price. Always make sure you read the instructions .

Hi
Sharon gave some good tips. I will add to that by saying fleas take some effort once you have been infested. Your must get rid of all the eggs to rid the house of the pests. This includes cleaning rugs, bedding, clothes, etc. Secondly, you can use a medication, but I do NOT recommend Frontline. It is a more toxic substance and is intended for ticks also. Advantage is a flea only medication and a more effective and safer substance, but should not be used on nursing mothers.

get frontline for the cats. Put it on just after your son went to sleep, then you know he wont touch the flea killer for a few hours. Capstar tablets are great aswell, thet kill fleas and ticks. If your cats will allow it you can even get anti-flea shampoo. Get some insect killer for the house. Get flea collers for the cats to avoid this happening again, Good luck!

only SAFE thing is a flea comb.. comb through their fur under a good light - remove any fleas and stick them to tape for disposal.. any flea eggs should be removed this way too... it takes time but is the ONLY safe way.. do this 2 times a day for several days...

also vaccum your house - wash ALL cat bedding and toys (put anything you cannot wash in the freezer for 48 hours)

KEEP THE CATS INDOORS only so they dont get more fleas....

and please please make a spay appoitment for your mom cat - put her back on adult food now to dry her up - if the kitten is older than 8 weeks it is too demanding on mom to keep allowing it to nurse...(you will have to feed them seperately so mom only gets adult food and the kitten only gets kitten food)

Keep a bowl of soapy water below a table lamp. The fleas will leap towards the light at night, jump into the water and drown.
