I work overnights. but even on my nights off, I cant sleep for more than 3 hours at a time. usually, I sleep for 3 hours after work, until my daughters wake up. then I sleep for 3-4 more hours when my husband gets home from work. Im always tired, my energy comes in short bursts, then im so tired, I cant even think. When I wake up im always VERY hungry and thirsty.
even if I stay up all day with no naps, Ill go to sleep exsausted. then ill wake up 2 hours later, ill eat something. do something. mabey the computer because no one else is up. then ill go back to sleep for 2-3 more hours. how can I go to sleep and stay asleep all night, on my nights off? Is this a sleep disorder?

Actually I have to agree with the others...you should talk to your doctor about this. I don't think it's a sleep disorder necessarily, but you definitely do need to be able to sleep when you can (I'm guessing you're not in college, because that seems to be a trait all college students share - the ability to sleep anytime anywhere when you get the chance lol). Your doctor will be able to help you more than just going and getting medication because most of the OTC stuff you're supposed to be able to "devote at least 7-8 hours of sleep" before taking it, and that doesn't sound like a possibility.
Good luck!

My sister works nights and how she stays up on her nights off is she will sleep when she will stay up until about 11:00 am then sleep until about 4:00 pm and then goes back to bed that evening at about 9:00pm or 10:00pm.; the next day she is up and sleep a normal night. Sleep in the morning a few hours. You should probably not go back to sleep when your husband gets home and save it for when you both go to bed at night on your nights off.

It's hardly a sleeping disorder based on what you describe, but only with more info one could be certain.

For a starter I'd say look for a job that does NOT involve night shifts.

Take it from me, good sleep is more important than just about ANY job!

Nope, you don't have a sleep disorder. Welcome to third shift babe! Try morning sex with your husband before you go to work (schedule allowing) or if he is not available do a vigorous exercise routine. Either workout will put you to nap land in no time.

I can be the same way. I use medication to help me sleep. Maybe you could talk to your doctor. Not having enough sleep is quite debilitating.
