Do you think that a person under the age of 18 should be treated differently than one over 21 because they are not of legal age yet?

Typically, yes. Kids under the age of 18 are still developing socially. This is supported by a vast amount of developmental psychological research. So while a 17 year old who commits robbery and murder is unlikely to develop into an upstanding citizen, the theory is that it's possible, and therefore society should not give up on him and label him a criminal the way that it would with a 30-year old.

Note: I think I disagree with Bill H (above) in almost every way possible, politically speaking, but he's seems to be right on with his answer.

Yes. It seems odd to me when kids commit really bad crimes the courts want to treat them like adults. Committing a really bad crime is proof they are not mature.

The punishment for those under 18 should be tailored more towards rehabilitation than punishment. That said, viscious crimes i.e. assault, rape, murder should be punished as adults .
