“you are not the first one to have given birth and it’s not like you have given birth to christ”

We were on an overseas trip. He told me that this trip was very important and cannot be delayed.
The first day was just a waste of time as I neither learnt any new thing nor added any value by being there.
When I told him it was not worth leaving my breatfeeding baby at home for this trip, he replied
"come on you are not the 1st one to have given birth and it's not as if you have given birth to Christ"

I assume you have just had a child.

have you asked for time off?

Either way he is offensive and out of line.

You could report him to his superiors, but that often can backfire and they will make your life a misery.

If he repeats anything like this, take a note of time and what he said. If there were witnesses, note who.

With a record, if this becomes constant or regular harassment you have evidence.

Hope he was intending it to be a joke which came out wrong, but you never know. Sounds like he is a pillock.

I agree with the others that you have probably been talking too much about birth and babies, and he is saying we all already know what birth is like, your baby isn't Christ (isn't special) so shut up.

If you have been complaining about the pain, then another interpretation of the part about Christ could be "It's not like it was a virgin birth, so you brought it on yourself".

Probably best if you just keep quiet about the baby at work and try and get back to normal in your job. Don't expect any special treatment because you won't get any.

Your boss is a horrible person.

Yes, as other people said, you are probably going on and on about the new birth of your child or maybe you are asking for a lot of time off due to your child or children. As a single person, I am personally annoyed by the fact that parents always get to leave early or have time off because of their children. What about single people? Because we do not have kids, it is like we are treated like our lives are less important.

As a side note, I also don't like kids too much and it is boring when people go on and on about kids. Kids today are unruly. They ask too many questions, they have not discipline, and they are spoiled.

Also, I thought the comment was kind of humorous...at least someone could put an end to it.

Here it appears that he is very irritated because the work is not happening and you might have given some excuse of you being pregnant.
But on a whole his remark is very stupid and it shows that he has no respect for women hood including his own mother. His very existence is a women and every women need this respect.
Well! I will call this and act of devil in human disguise.

This is kind of a snarky comment - he's telling you to get over yourself and that fact that you have given birth. You aren't that special... evidently, he's tired of either hearing about your birthing process or your baby - just a thought.

HAVE YOU GIVEN BIRTH LATELY? have you used this as an excuse, perhaps to avoid some work being asked from you or used giving birth as an excuse for not going to work... Anyway, I think your boss just merely wanted to tell you not to use giving birth as an excuse for anything... :) I don't think it is an implied harassment though so just relax...

congrats for the new baby

Your boss is trying to say that your baby is not as important as your job. Personally I disagree with your boss. Maybe it's time to look for a new job.

you have probrbly gone on ad nauseum about the fact that you are pregnant ,or about the actual birth, or your baby. (And i speak as someone who has given birth to 4 children.)

I think the best person to clarify this comment is the one who made it. Communication is the key to to good management and team work, so I'm sure your boss won't mind articulating on the situation.

Sounds like your boss is sick of you going on and on about you giving birth, and how wonderful your baby is. Your boss sounds like a miserable git!
