lol what are you like ?
you go on about science and evolution and how facts are facts
but when someone who believes in God admits these facts and tries to incorperate them into their belief system
they are still looked down upon
like the poster who asked this question
http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AstSEYCpMSB.RBPnt6Rdso9FLxV.;_ylv=3?qid=20071119022144AADipi8
like myself also
and nowhere did he or I say that we were Christian
do you all see the word God and automatically think Christians ?
will you not be happy until we give up our belief in God also ?
even when that belief in God is through our own personal experiences ?
I rarely say anything against you guys ... but come on
if we dont understand some things about evolution ... then educate us by all means
discuss
naughty naught people ( yeah AZ you know I am giving you that look now )

Pangel, you and I are at almost polar opposites of our beliefs systems, but I would love to be sitting next to you and help you tear these answers apart, one by one with a few well thought out exceptions. First of all, I think many started keying in a response before they read the entire question, a very common practice that leads to more contention than necessary. Secondly, you stay on top of your questions and will clarify as needed. Do you see how some tear at you just at the assumption,(wrong folks!) that you are a Christian.
To simplify, I would say that people as a whole are becoming less content with their lives. Many are so busy just trying to get by, and don't take time to appreciate this wondrous world we inhabit. It has never occured to me to blame an Atheists or Pagan or any other belief for my unhappiness. I am sad when bad things happen, but other than that, I am a very grateful and content person as you seem to be. This is a forum for exchanging spiritual beliefs, or the lack of, in a meaningful way. Ideally, we should all learn something here. I think the one that amuses me the most is angry Kangus. He starts out calling his entity a Goddess, and reverts to calling her "it." A man of conviction! Have you ever made that mistake? I doubt if you have, and I know I do haven't. Most people would not refer to a pet as "it," let alone an entity. As has been pointed out many times, believing in God does not make you a Christian, and stirring all believers of any entity in one pot is an all time low even for R&S. To answer, yes. Not from my overall experience, but from the answers on this page, these responders are making Athiests look like a very unhappy lot. They would rather tear down someone than give an intelligent answer, perhaps because they are not one of the well read Atheists that are ever so much more fun to spar with. Guess they haven't met 8Track! Gaz and Universal Pants will make you think, plus many others.

Ugh.
1) I find your assumptions about me on the basis of my atheism repulsive. I hope you have some good reason for them.
2) Yeah, they're still looked down upon.
Or not.
I have theist friends of several religions, and many atheist friends (atheist myself). Yet you still tell me that I look down on people because of their choice of religion. (Furthermore, we are all science students, so we all believe evolution).
For what it is worth, I probably would have told off the guy in question for using the term "darwinism", but this is beside the point.
3) "Will you not be happy until we give up our belief in God also?" - I'll be happy when I am with my friends. Some of those believe in God.
If you didn't mean this in an unpleasant way but still recognise that perhaps saying that atheists are never happy because a couple of people didn't think it was any more rational to believe a mixture than a creation myth, then I won't hold this against you in the least. :)

I would imagine that most evolutionists are happy that you, or anyone, accepts evolution. I know I am, for example.
However - people post *questions* here, and are (you would think) expecting to get answers. Answers that just say "good for you" are no use to anyone; the best answers will be "I think you are wrong because of X", or "You are mostly correct, but have you considered Y". They are the ones that actually provide new information for the questioner.
I checked the post you linked. And there's not exactly a huge amount of hostility for the questioner. Just people stating *their* beliefs.
That said, to asnwer this:
"do you all see the word God and automatically think Christians ?"
Sadly, that is usually the case. Muslims would say Allah. Jews might say "God" too, but you don't generally find them on Y:A arguing about evolution for some reason.
"Will you not be happy until we give up our belief in God also ?"
Belief in evolution is not the same as disbelief in God. 96% of all US scientists believe in evolution, and 40% of them also believe in God.
As atheists, we think you are deluded in your belief in God. I'm "happy" for you to believe, but I'd be happier if you didn't. It's easier to respect someone who you don't see as deluded.
"Even when that belief in God is through our own personal experiences ?"
That's fine. My personal experiences, and my thoughts, have led me to believe otherwise.

I am happy. I don't have a problem with other people having religions. The only thing I have a problem with is people telling me I am a bad person for being atheist. Or telling me that I have to convert to their religion. Atheists are most definitely not the only ones guilty of this. I believe in tolerance and I am sick of people pushing their religion on me. I may retaliate to some questions trying to tell atheists to believe with "god doesn't exist" but I don't answer "god doesn't exist and you must believe that too". please do not generalize all atheists for trying to convert you to atheism. I know what you feel like too though. Here is my question venting a similar annoyances of many religious folks (mainly Christians just because I mostly only know Christians) http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AokbtjsD8VewF.thDXEDrq_sy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071118230907AApXub0

I agree with you. I think that many atheists are as blinded by their "belief" and intolerance as many religious folks are. They are just the other side of the coin and just as imbalanced. I honestly think the truth of our origins may very well be some where in between these two extremes. Thanks for asking this question, I really like it!
By the way, I never realized that Pangel((HUGS)) was feisty! I like to see this side of you. Hugs are great and all, but there is definitely a time when hugs don't get the point across. I didn't know you had it in you to get pissed like this. I'm impressed!

I had a childhood health history that reads like an episode of the X files, but even I am very happy now as an adult. That being said nobody likes to be disrespected or having their humanity doubted. I might come off as angry here in R&S, but there are things posted here that could strain the patience of Ghandi.

Sometimes, you just can't win.
This site can bring out the bad in people. I rarely speak out against the atheists here, either. Most of them I consider my friends. But it is really frustrating when on one hand they claim that the only reason the speak up against religion is because it influencing their daily life, separation of church and state, etc (which I'm totally down with)...and then on the other hand, they go insulting people and calling names even when we don't try to interfere with anyone's lives.
I guess this is a blanket statement too. I don't know. As I said, sometimes you can't win. I'm a liberal Christian. I get called delusional by the non-religious for the Christian part, and evil by some fundamentalists for the liberal part. Aye. What's a girl to do?
Just be yourself, people love you anyway. They say things on here that they don't mean. If one of my contacts says something that ticks me off, I usually just send them an email and we hash it out that way. Life is never without conflict, as much as we'd like it to be. And as I said, this page brings out bad things in people. The middle-of-the-road folk get grouped in the the extremist, and any chance of reasonable discussion goes to hell. That's why I've been making myself sparse here lately.

As I was just saying to Jamel Mobley the other day, Roderick Navarro seems to be a little under the whethers, and since Chabar and the Green Lantern didn't show up for the party, it was just Kenneth Bourdeaux, pinemirati and I.
Arthalene came late, so it was just the four of us to carry the conversation, which was in apollo or not. We concluded that atheists are just like theists in that we all see what we want to see, and picking on theists is just their way of trying to convince themselves that they are right.

"why are you atheist dudes never happy?"
I've been retired since 2000 - I got the time, money and energy to do anything I want.
My biggest disappointment the day before yesterday was that there wasn't a loaf of 'Bill's Sourdough', my favourite bread, available but I knew it'd be in today so I was happy again.
AS well as all that there's no Invisible Sky Critter's hoops I gotta jump through - all I gotta do is the right thing cos it's the right thing to do and I should be about as lucky as any theist who does the same thing.

From a scientific background;I'm happy to let everyone believe what they like as long as they let me do the same without persecution or complaint.
I have thought that theoretical physics is treated by some of it's adherents as a Religion. Most of the theories are extrapolated and cannot be currently proved. There are various schisms. They brook no contention from their views...
and yet it's science?
