I'm going to Val Thorens in France and wanted to know if it cheaper hiring skis online before I go. Also is it worth buying a lift pass online before I go?

When I fly to ski I only take my boots. I always grab some demo skis at a local shop. I do this for several reasons.

#1: I can get my boots, gear, and some apres' clothing in my allotted carry-on space, so lost skis and gear become a moot point.

#2: It gives me the opportunity to try skis I don't own/sell/rent/ or otherwise use.

The only way I would take my own skis on a plane is if I were a racer and needed my own skis.

well its called ski "renting". saying hire, looks like you want a job at charmonix. i was there last march and me any my dad rented skis from ski arlberg, or something like that. i think it would be easier to go to a shop like that, than to mess around online. dnt stress nd have fun. good luck!! also make sure that you know where your skis are at ALL TIMES. me and my dads skis were stolen on the 3rd day, WHILE they were locked in a bike rack. 10 pairs are stolen everyday. this is according to the local police. that is why my dad and i had to rent. be careful!

I'm not totally sure about skis, but I've traveled with golf clubs and rented them and it's easier to just rent them. So I would assume the same is true for skis. But just like the clubs they might not be as nice. It's just much easier not to have to take them through an airport.
