So I just saw an answer about atheists not believing in god (true) but believing in the devil (not true!!) and I always got an answer to my lasts question that seems to believe that. Why do people think that atheists believe in the devil? I have even had one of my Christian friends think that I was a devil worshiper when I told her I was atheist. Why is it people think this? Is their religion misinforming them or do they just simply not understand?

People just associate godlessness with immorality and evil.
I know there are atheists who are good people and that belief isn't true.
But misinformed people see it that way.............That's just the way it is

It is not that you worship Satan. It is that there are two sides and you picked Satan's. There does not have to be any worship involved and that is where many believer's get confused. In the Christian mindset if you know of Christ and choose anything other than him, even if the choice is that none of it exists, then you have sided with Satan, even unintentionally. There is no middle ground, you are either working for God's purposes or for Satan's purposes, the former must be deliberate but the latter does not.

I do get the impression that some fundies can't conceive of people having no religion at all, and so think we must be secret anti-christians or devil worshippers.
That and their church is lying to them for a change.

I second this notion. And to believe in the devil would pretty much imply that I believe in a god. For every action this is an opposite but equal reaction...

All people are ignorant to some extent and by summing up a category as broad as Christians in one sentence will do nothing but harm the truth.

I call atheists as that human being with all the wishes, beliefs & feeling that the humans have, except the worship of either the God or any other super natural element that is good or bad.
But, some times back I tested one of my 'so called' atheist friend! I suddenly woke him up from his deep sleep at mid night and he shouted loudly "Jesus please help me!" That came from his heart out of fear. From that I understood, in his heart Jesus is ruling, in the tongue athiesm is controlling due to some unknown reason.

People who believe in a religion are usually quite ignorant of their own belief system - so it stands to reason they would be equally ignorant of other people's beliefs.

I'd also like to know why they assume if you don't believe in God you are an atheist. I am agnostic myself, it just makes more sense to me and while I do not believe in God I would also not call myself an atheist (hence the agnostic!)
Ignorance astounds me o.O
