I assume you are going to be working in Hong Kong or staying there for many months.

You can find very inexpensive locations but the units are so small that when you blink your eyes your eyelashes will scratch the wall and the rats will be telling you to move over to give them some room.

Seriously though a lot depends on what part of Hong Kong you want/need to be located, size of the unit you are looking for, security concerns, how long you are realistically going to be there, etc. Personally I would suggest staying in a reasonable priced hotel/inn for a while until you can find a unit you are comfortable with, in the price range you are looking. Keep in mind finding apartments in HK is a little like finding one in New York City there is a lot of competition for them. However, if you are not overly picky on location and don’t mind a walk to get in and out of an area you can find some units without to much trouble.

Just for quick reference http://www.all-hotels.com has some general prices and location maps of hotels that might help give you a starting point.

Depend on how many people + how long your stay, you can try this website: http://www.homelidays.com where you contact the owners directly. Good for 4+ and at least 1 week stay.
