I've worked in corrections, before. I'm 40 years old, and look every bit the soccer mom. I'm thinkin' this would be a great cover.

With proper training, I think I might be onto something..

What do you think?

You may be right. Men often trust women more than they trust men. People woudn't expect a women to be a private investigator, which might be a good reason to be one.

You should do it,,, that is what i am going to do when I retire from my current job.

You will have an advantage,,, most criminals and other people are willing to talk to a female, faster than a male. It is the whole intimidation thing. You can come across very concerned and with your motherly instincts you can really show you care, and they will talk to you. Besides with your experience in the correction field, you know how to talk and act like a criminal, so you can investigate crimes and think "if I were a criminal, how would I commit this crime, and what would I do" Most good investigators are border line criminals, it is all how you think and look at things.

Depending on where you live, you can really make some money. Especially if you are a private investigator with a reputation for finding things out. You will have an advantage, being a priviate investigator you can ask questions the police cant,, you are not prosecuting them, you are finding out information for your client,,, and it can help the police in their investigation.

so go for it and have fun

You plan on being employed by a private investigation company or being self employed?

Most private investigators I knew did searches for missing people (kids, spouses, dead beats, etc.), followed unfaithful spouses around and took pictures, or investigated accidents for insurance companies. Some had a clientele of lawyers and they did background checks on people involved in lawsuits. There are really few PI who do criminal investigations. It ain't like it is on TV.

I think it would be exciting...I wanted to do a similar thing myself, MI5 needed more women as a lot are put off by the danger as they are Mom's etc. I didn't do it as it meant spending long periods away...but if you were to become a P.I. it would have it's dangers...you'd have to learn self defence and how to really handle yourself if you can't already.

I think a lot of P.I. work is things like checking out unfaithful spouses...I say go for it. You're right, no one is suspicious of a Mommy looking woman!

I have seen lady PI's and I think they do as good a job, if not better, than a male PI.
