I don't believe that witches are devil worshipers. But I can offer you some insight into the issue. During the counter-reformation, the accusation of "witch" meant a devil worshiper. Back then, witches were defined as people (mostly men) who summoned the devil, worshiped him, made a pact with him, and received magical powers. In the 19th century, Margaret Murray theorized that the accusations of witchcraft in the counter-reformation were actually the surviving members of pre-Christian European paganism. Although her theories were soundly refuted, Gerald Gardner utilized her reconstruction of pre-Christian "paganism" to invent modern witchcraft in the 1950's.
In other words, modern Gardner-based Wicca/witchcraft is actually derived from the counter-reformation concept of the prototypical devil-worshiper. So it is shouldn't surprise you to run across Christians who associate witchcraft with devil-worship.
For the history buffs, modern witchcraft is about 60 years old. No witches were ever killed by Christians - those were Christians who were falsely accused of witchcraft. The victims of the "burning times" were Christians, not witches, and certainly not pagans.
Interesting - in this post alone, Christians are...
ignorant
bigots
simple minded
devil-worshipers(?)
retarded
think everyone is a devil-worshiper
uneducated
uniform
don't know anything about witchcraft or paganism
brainwashed
judgmental

Because of the Mystery Pigeon Holing Society that is everyone out there right now. People don't actually research anything they just glob it together with everything else. Witchcraft is bad. There for it must be still. It's probably cause there's too many people still scared of it. Who won't just actually ask a question or get to know the religion before they judge it. I am always happy to explain to people when they ask about my pentacle. People just haven't learned to accept it yet. They may eventually. Maybe one day Paganism and Wicca will be the main religion of the Country and Christianity and Catholicisms will be the odd man out. One can only dream.

If you worship any thing besides the one and only true God then you are worshiping false gods and idols. These are actually Satan in disguise and are meant to deceive you into worshiping him. The practices of witchcraft are in fact Satanic. The roots stem from early non-Christian faiths. To deny God in itself is the work of Satan. We know some do not believe they are worshiping the Devil, but actually it is him, the fallen angel in disguise. You do not have to acknowledge that you worship him in your ceremonies. Your faith denounces God therefore you are doing the work of Satan. I hope this explains things. Of all the faiths that are out there, I find it equally as puzzling as to why atheists only target Christianity.

Because Christians see things like witchcraft, black magic, and the devil all the same. They are asking for things through means other than the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Thus Christians do not approve.
Think of it this way. If Jesus isn't involved in some way or fashion, Christians don't like it.
Hope this helps you understand. :)

I was the religious leaders fear of loosing control of their followers which caused witches to be viewed as "Devils" most people were uneducated and were easily swayed by things they did/could not explain. Making them devils produced a mistrust rather than a admiration.

Um, I'm a Christian, and I don't believe that.
However. According to the Bible, anyone who does not serve Christ IS serving Satan, whether they want to or not, and whether they mean to or not.
But I don't believe that witches directly worship the devil, since they don't believe in him.
I'm sure that when Christians say things about witches supposedly being devil worshipers, that scripture is what they're referring to.

For two reasons.
1) Most Christians do not know anything about witchcraft and paganism and assume it is all devil worship.
2) Some Christians believe the worship of anything that is not the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is the (indirect) worship of Satan.

Because back in the day anything that wasn't Christian is evil. A lot of people still feel that way. I have a sister that believe "Pagan" is synonymous with evil, and it's remarkable how many people share that belief.
Oh well, it's just another flavor of brain washing, it happens all the time in everything from religion to politics to education.

It's in the bible that any witch or warlock (any one using magic at all ) is evil. In the Old testiment "god" calls for their deaths. I don't belive this, but this is where it's rooted.
Remember the Christians a nd pagans have been fighting for a long time!

What, pray tell, do your ceremonies mention? From where are you invoking you power? If it is not from God then it is from Satan. It is really as simple as that, if you are not for one then you are for the other, there is no third option. It is a case of "a rose by any other name..."
