I am a miracley cured over cancer. I had stage 4, Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Supposedly just do not recover from this if you are stage 4, the last and most severe stage of cancer. I never received one card, no letters, and not one email. I did receive a couple of phone calls from family members and friends. After 2 1/2 years of medical treatment my cancer disappeared. Now the only sign I ever had cancer is a 2 inch scar on my back where they removed two grapefruit sized lymph nodes for biopsy. I have been cancer free for over 7 years now.

As for your card claim, I believe though Nigerian Bank Money email, those Microsoft/Yahoo Lottery emails, and most of the Spam I receive have a better chance of being true. Yes, before you ask the question, I am a religious man. No, since you did not ask, I don't believe God had anything to do with my cure, my oncologist and her staff did everything.

Start reading and learning facts, it will set you free.

There have been studies done on patients that involved prayer.

The short answer is that there was no direct effect of prayer.

The long answer was that:

The people that were told that others were praying for them, EVEN IF THEY REALLY WERE NOT PRAYING for them, showed improvements from the prayers.

The people who were not told others were praying for them THAT HAD people praying for them, did not show any signs of extra improvement.

It is as if people have to know they are being prayed for to show improvements.

So the study more or less questioned the healing power of prayer.

There maybe a catch to all of this in the bible. See if you can find it.

Do people being prayed for have to know that they are being prayed for? If we try to study this pray healing, does that somehow void the praying power to heal? Such as God is not allowed to show himself, therefore it does not work in the study? Working off the basis of "faith"...

I see it simple.. it helps.

There are many things out there we do not understand. For the witches that cast black voodoo on people... I say create a flaming fire ball in your hand and throw it at me and I might take you seriously.

For the televangelists, wipe your hand across an open wound and as you finish wiping let the wound close up and be healed.

Until you can do that; I'm not impressed. But keep praying, it is a good thing.

So far nothing beats a knuckle sandwich or a doctor.

I don't mean this to be a joke or rude, just realistic.

If prayer could really help someone's health than the royal family of England would be the healthiest people in the world, because every Sunday, every Anglican congregation in England prays for their health.

They did a study where Christians (American Fundamentalist Christians) prayed for the health of some patients and not others. There was no difference between these two groups, but patients who -knew- they were being prayed for actually di worse!

Christians generally believe that God has a plan for the universe. And that the details of this plan are generally beyond our understanding. What if a boy dying of cancer is part of some larger part of God's plan? When you pray, you are asking God to change his plan! Why would you do that if you believe he knows better than you?

So one million is the magic number, huh? I suppose doctors had nothing to do with this. Why did they not write get well cards for more than just this one person? I mean how much more time would it have taken? Did it have to be in writing? Cause if not, they could have just all prayed for all cancer to just vanish from the face of the earth. You think only of the person who was cured. I think about all of those who were killed. Prayer does not work.

Do you think that god is hard of hearing ? Or is poor at math and can't add up the prayers so he judges by volumn ?

No amount of prayer can change a random result .( Scientific Fact ! ) Some people get better ...some don't . Prayer does not help the subject , but often makes the pray-er feel better because they feel they at least tried something .

EDIT for: Susan M . The article from csm actually indicates NO effect from prayer .
The study by Hodge ( a fundamentalist Christian whos degrees are in religious studies) has been proven to be extremley flawed because he included flawed and disimilar studies in his "compilation of studies" study .

If it did happen, yes,it must be a miracle.By the way,if the cancer was found to be no existent,it could be a either a case of wrong diagnosis or or just a coincident. If we consider miracle a possibility then we can't rule out other possibilities as well. But,what is your question?

Nothing fails like prayer:

http://www.dimaggio.org/Eye-Openers/prayer_does_not_work.htm
[Excerpt]

"Prayer Does Not Work. Sorry.
Once again, it's all in your mind..

"In a long-awaited comprehensive scientific study on the effects of intercessory prayer on the health and recovery of 1,802 patients undergoing coronary bypass surgery in six different hospitals, prayers offered by strangers had no effect. In fact, contrary to common belief, patients who knew they were being prayed for had a higher rate of post-operative complications such as abnormal heart rhythms, possibly the result of anxiety caused by learning that they were being prayed for and thus their condition was more serious than anticipated."

You have the right idea, although the point is that the million were in agreement:

Matthew 18:19 (King James Version) Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

I think God would be very pleased if one million of his children praised him like that. But I think that praise is significant, whether from one or one million.

God bless you.

According to Christian teaching, No, Jesus said, whenever three or more are gathered in my name, there I am in their midst., So three would seem to be the magic number. Again, according to Christian teaching, you can't get more powerful intercession than Jesus, and if three can "Conjure" him into their midst (for lack of a better term). then three suffice...

Now I would like to see the same experiement done with a small girl who has lost a limb... let's say you get three million postcards and get well wishes and prayers,, will she regrow a limb?

I don't think that you need a million people.
I have thought about getting a group of people who believe in prayer but are of different faiths and religions to pray for people in need. I hope that many Answers
folks will say a prayer for your friend. I pray your friend is healed.

Prayer is beneficial. The criteria chosen for
results of studies can be flawed:

Don't get caught up in being angry or thinking at all about rude people now. They don't matter. Your friend does. Belief and faith are what is important.
