Hi
I have a really nasty cold at the moment and last night, noticed a lump under my arm that is also quite painful. I'm assuming it's just a swollen gland due to the cold but you know how the imagination runs away when you're awake at 3am surrounded by tissues!!!
Do I need to see my doc about this lump or is it just because of my cold?

Thanks

It is very unlikely that a cold will give you a lump in the armpit. That the lump is painful suggests an infection. I suspect the infection is local, in the skin of the armpit. Get it checked out. You might also need to have your blood sugar checked.

A cold can cause swollen lymph nodes in your neck, behind your ears and along you chin BUT NOT IN YOUR ARMPITS.

Could be from some kind of cut or skin infection, maybe a spider bite. If you have mono, you might have a lot of swollen lymph glands. Did you have a really bad sore throat?

It could be a cyst or it could be several other things, some of which are serious. If it doesn't go away in a week, you should see your doctor.

Don't listen to anyone and don't look up lymph glands on the search engine, or you'll be dead by the weekend with worry - see the doctor - I have one on my neck, been there nearly a year, I saw hospital doc he said Benin tumour ,then had MRI scan and biopsy last week, waiting results, doc said its probably an infection Iv had that's not cleared up but have to wait for results, I am healthy and don't get colds flu's or anything, seemingly it can also come from bad teeth, I have one needing removed.?

I actually got several lumps in my underarm a few years back. The docto said they're not to worry about and gave me some medicines to make it go away. In less than a week, they're gone.

Yours may just be due to the colds, but it's always best to get a medical professional's opinon.

Is it right in your armpit? Feels like a hard, round cyst under the skin? That has happened to me a few times. They happen about a day after lifting something very heavy and straining myself. They went away after a few days.
You probably strained yourself on something or even coughed yourself to putting a strain somewhere.
Relax and take care of your cold.

See your doctor. It is most likely a swollen gland, but that is also where there is a cluster of lymph nodes...

Bottom line, you're probably fine, but why risk something like that and make yourself worry for a while.

be a man, let that **** go away on its own. If its not straight within a week or so , then see a doc. A cold is a virus , but not a threat. Um, it will subside on its own, but could definitely cause a little swelling, because your lymphatic system is trying to find the disease. Save your money.

It probably is related to the cold, but it does need to be checked by the doc. He can have a feel and determine whether it is to do with your cold.

No one on here can tell, it needs to be seen and felt by the doc.

You should absolutely see a doctor immediately. Both of my parents had this symptom and it was cancerous. Both died within nine months of the discovery. These are the lymph glands and depending on your age and lifestyle habits if cancerous it could be fatal and should not be taken lightly.

Hate to play the devils advocate but swollen axillary lymph nodes could be a sign of a metastasizing breast carcinoma. This was the first sign of the developing Inflammatory breast carcinoma that eventually took my beloved wife's life last year. This is nothing to take lightly. See your physician immediately! Best of luck.
