I think that asking this question says a lot about you as a person. The nature of the question you ask implies an interest to seek real spiritual wisdom, the real power that Jesus talked about his entire life. My suggestion would be to stay away from any institutionalized ideas, as they will just result in answers that help you conform to fuel the institution, not you personally. There are a lot of books that are subject to what you are talking about now. I am quite fond of books by author Neale Donald Walsch - particularly "What God Wants?" and of course the popular book "Conversations with God" Also eastern thinking revolves around the idea of self improvement through right mindset, rather than compliance with rhetoric and rules. Maybe pick up the Tao Te Ching, read the poems by Lao Tzu, its one of the fundamental books for Taoism but unless you live in china you wont have people trying to guide your thinking, rather you can study the poems and interpret it yourself. Most religions at there roots share the same spiritual principals, just as the Institution grows the farther away from those ideals they move. I find just seeking answers and challenging them is one of the best ways to self-improve find a resource that can give you answers that proof fruitful in life.

If you want to be good person, you become friend of good people, keep doing good deeds that good people do.
Whether you become Christian or Muslim or none of these, even then I would suggest you to read the life story of Jesus Christ and Mohammad SAW to learn what good things they did. If you want to be accepted by God and given heaven then best would be to learn about Islam. If God is willing, He will guide you the right path and you will make the right choices to later enter in heaven also.

If you want to be a better person, then be one. Only an individual can improve themselves, praying for it will never do anything.

I am assuming you are not suffering from depression or some other mental disorder that would prohibit you from creating your own positive influence.

properly, for the reason that i don't know you in my opinion, this may well be slightly annoying to respond to. the undeniable fact which you particularly opt for to develop right into a greater desirable individual however shows me that's necessary to have a good coronary heart. in case you notice somebody who needs help (and you will help them), help them. Smile and say hi to strangers. in case you do drugs, get your self help Dont use people call up your loved ones memebers and acquaintances, just to declare hi and chat for slightly. awaken daily with a favorable attitude, tell your self how magnificent the day earlier than you would be.

First you need to decide what it is that you are not doing well enough, or aspects of yourself that you believe need improvement. Once you have established that, you can get to the task of changing yourself in those areas.
Your question is somewhat broad. The answer will depend on what aspects of yourself you wish to change.
Best of luck to you and coudos to you wanting to better yourself!

Isn't 'how to be a better person' self-contained and maximatic? You do more good things. You make an effort to find places where you can help, and to actually help.

Facing the truth about yourself - with all your weaknesses and strengths, and then doing right at all times. Not just what is right for you, but right for every other person as well.
