Deliberately misrepresenting another person's words, intents, motives, and actions to other people, causing that person to be unjustly regarded in a bad light, is evil.

Slandering or defaming another person in an attempt to marginalize them and thereby limit or hamper their ability to interact with others is a form of evil.

Malicious gossip about another person's supposed past transgressions, when in fact that person may have well put that past behind them (or is trying to), is evil.

"Poisoning the well" in advance, so to speak, by engaging in any or all of the above listed behaviors, with the express purpose of causing an extreme negative reaction from persons who have never met the victim target person, but may in the future (I have personally seen this happen BTW).

I personally would consider anyone engaging in these above activities to be committing and perpetuating evil. Someone who has no conscience with regard to doing these things is, IMO, an evil person.

I mention the above things because they are so common, and because many people who engage in these behaviors don't consider them evil, and rationalize them with the notions "I'm just pointing out facts", or "That person has it coming" or "that's life - everyone does this", etc. Evil takes many forms - I don't remember who said this, but it was a comment concerning "the banality of evil" - most evil that people engage in isn't the dramatic stuff (murder, bank robbery, etc.) but the day-to-day stuff like I've mentioned above, that the average person may not always consider as being evil. I'd consider these examples to be in the category of things that are maybe less obvious, and sort of "under the radar" of most people when it comes to considering what is really evil.

BTW - to the person on here who commented that "there are no evil people, only evil acts", you couldn't be more wrong. Evil acts are committed by people who are inclined toward the same.

Here is the thing: EVERYONE commits evil acts sometimes. EVERYONE. So there are no sure-fire signs. Ted Bundy was polite, intelligent, and kind... when he wasn't kidnapping, raping, and murdering people. Factor in mental health problems and people who cannot help their actions, and this is an impossible question to answer. The nicest person you ever met might have a nasty secret they are hiding. That crotchety, grump old man up the street might be the most charitable person you know. No one is perfect, so generally it is best to judge actions independently, rather than people in general.

I think that evil is harming another living thing for personal gain or satisfaction,
of course this definition can be very precarious; because you might as well say all humans are evil for killing animals in order to eat them, but I would argue this by saying killing is NOT evil if its out of sheer necessity, like survival; but I guess evil is subject to interpretation influenced by culture and society, in which case it would simply be defined as moral deviation, or a behavioral anomaly which obstructs society.

Either way, "evil" people are seen as predators amongst the unsuspecting, people like psychopaths are very cunning, they infiltrate the psyche, manipulate your trust, and pounce when you least expect it. I think they are a perfect example of "evil". Of course people like psychopaths lack conscience, so they are impervious to social conformity which is partly the source of morality, so "evil" might as well be defined as a mental illness.

The one that is hitting you. The one that is spreading lies about you. The one that uses deceit.

Mentally disturbed people cause a lot of grief and destruction. As for 'evil', I feel the real 'evil' is delusion, where good people follow nutters and demonize or kill thousands or millions of another imagined group, whether for religion or politics.

Delusion because they are so willing to believe that the jews, blacks, gays, muslims, christians, tribes, herbalists, scientists, women, protestants, catholics, etc, etc, etc. are the real 'evil'...

Such delusion was in Columbus' heart when he slaughtered the South Americans, when Hitler captured the hearts of the Catholics, when Stalin captured the hearts of the Russians, etc. What captured their hearts to bring so much destruction? Conviction captured their hearts. Conviction and the willingness to believe lies and propaganda promulgated by mad people, religious people, political people, all driven by a hunger for power, all happy that the sheep would follow...

If a person you are around radiates lots of guilt and turmoil these are evil. People who lie intentionally or are dishonest with you with a straight face and enjoy fooling you into thinking they are telling the truth are eminating evil ways. The definition of evil to me is anything that harms another person in any way by the person doing it to them.

I disagree with your assessment of evil. As a Taoist Pantheist Atheist, I believe that 'evil' is as necessary as 'good.' Evil is natural selection, evil is death, destruction, and decay. I believe that what you're really looking for are signs of mental illness. There are many different types of mental illness, but you can usually tell somebody is mentally unstable by their personality. If their opinions or actions change drastically, suddenly, or if they say things which seem to be inconsistent with reality, or things they previously said.

The fruit they display In their lives.
I can look at a person's eye's and see what they have In their heart. As the eyes are the window of your soul.
I can feel what's In someone's heart upon meeting them.
It's called the gift of discernment.
When things like this are revealed to us,usually we're being called to pray on behalf of that person, not to SHARE/gossip.
Only the Holy Spirit reveals these things to a person.
