I want to know about the career prospectus of B.Tech I.T. and B.Tech computer science and engineering. which branch promises a better future.

IT folks use them and computer scientists design them. Actually, most software engineers I ever met were other things, some of our best are mathematicians, civil, chemical and electrical engineers. But I do embedded and realtime systems where understanding the whole system is much more useful than being able to argue the toss on different sorting algorithms.

IT is like being a car mechanic, computer science is like being a car designer.

I'd have said in the past that IT was a good career, but it's even easier to contract out to India and China than engineering. We used to have 14 IT people, now when I call the helpdesk I get an Indian in a call center a few thousand miles away who can't fix the problem and doesn't understand what I am complaining about anyway.
