Meditation has many, many benefits ranging from relaxing the mind and body, all the way to attaining enlightenment.
I have always likened it to taking a spiritual shower, after which one feels clean and renewed.
Meditation can awaken the mind's ability of awareness, heighten the natural sense of wonder, and increase the open-mindedness required to be happy.

It makes you aware of what you are thinking. How the thoughts connect and flow one to the next. It alows you to see you are not your thoughts.
It helps the body relax. Lots of physiological benifits.
Do it consistently for a few days, or weeks and you will find benifits happening. But do not overdo it. It gets really crazy, and can lead to psychological scewiness.
