Gravity is the only natural force for which there is no shielding. You can feel the effect of a bus load of fat women passing on the other side of the concrete freeway sound wall. When the moon is on the other side of the planet, it still pulls you down, making you heavier. It bends the path of light, so you can see what is behind a fat man if you stand in the right place.
