No one knows the origin of life and creation definitively. We all believe what we believe, and that's okay.
But why is the opposition to the possiblity if divine creation so hostile? Why do some, despite not knowing how earth, life and the universe were created, scoff so fiercely at divine intervention and direction in the origin of life and existence? Is God a more absurd answer than pure luck and happen-stance?
I really don't mind opposition and debate, but I read so many "idiot" comments on here aimed at Christians, it really makes me wonder....

Look, I see statements all the time on here referring to Christians as being not very intelligent. I am educated, experienced in life and believe in God, yet I don't believe atheists are idiots (though they may be statistically irrelevant - see question from yesterday). I just despise name calling...

They do have the right to their own opinions, but when the answers are aimed at making people feel like idiots or they are hostile, it may be because they are not sure themselves.

I'm really not familiar with their answers, so can't really comment on them.

I did not mean the comments are idiotic, I just meant the comments are sometimes meant to make Christians feel like idiots. Sorry.

I deffinaely agree that no one knows the origin of life / creation. And yes, I agree on the point that many argue so vigorously... BUT, that applies to BOTH sides. just as there are good points to ponder on both sides of the arguement, there are those individuals that are extreme in thier views because of a need to be "right" or "superior" and have the need to protect thier ego by protecting thier belief from any challenge. personally, I welcome all debate as long as it is a peaceful discussion, I love it when someone points something out I didn't think of, even better if i can be proven wrong.
I would point out that i don't believe the opposite of the God's Creation is "pure luck & hapen-stance". God is a real possibility and I have many views (scientific and logic) that show why God exists. But science uses observation, logic and (sometimes) reason. Energy moves, the 'laws of physics" are just logic consiquences of movement (if I bump a ball, it moves...). Movement organizes itself (organization is a logical SELF consiquence (put differnet sized rocks mixed up in a pot, shake the pot and the small rocks will fall to the bottle, eventually, the rocks will be organized, sorted, and depending on the shape, even fit together). On a molecular or cellular level, it is no different. No given enough time, say millions of years, universal organization does make sense. As does "natural selection", were arbitary mutations (we see these occur all the time), produce some to pro-create and others to fail to do so. No majic here, no "accident" or "pure luck", it just makes sense to happen. fact is, with change and movement, SOMETHING is going to happen, and EVERY SINGLE POSSIBILITY IS JUST AS UNLIKELY. If you throw a million balls in the air, the chance you catch a particular one is 1 in a million, but you WILL catch one of them, even though the odds were the same for that oneas well.
Sorry about the "idiot" comments, hope mine were too bad.

Intelligent Design is not Special Creation (divine spark of life). Intelligent Design is just repackaged "Scientific" Creationism -- Literal Biblical Creation with a few words removed to try to keep it from sounding like religion. ID has never been science; it is just hand waving and outright lies. The Big Bang is too clear from the evidence. Evolution is too clear from the evidence. Could there be an invisible hand guiding them? Yes, but there is no evidence. Could the precipitating event for each be of divine origin? Yes, but there is not evidence.

1) ID is a form of the fallacy "asserting the consequent".
2) Creationism makes no predictions, since it would fit any evidence.
3) ID, even if (necessarily unreasonably) accepted, does not even say what form of intelligence. People often just assume that it would be the Abrahamic deity that did the designing. Why not Zeus? Why not an entire pantheon?

So, ID offers no clear point of origination and is amenable to any effect. What use is that?

How curious, I find the opposite to be true. Answers on Politics and Government are too often basing comments on religious beliefs.

Anyway do you think it is a very Christian statement to refer to "idiot" comments aimed at Christians, shouldn't you turn the other cheek?

Free speech for all even those who don't agree with you.

Because there is proof of evolution. At one point Christians believed the earth is 6000 years old, we all know better, at one point Christians believed the earth was the center of the universe and every thing rotated around us, something else we now know is wrong. I believe in the big bang because I know we are moving away from the sun. And this might sound harsh, but if god was so intelligent, why did he create us, so we can destroy everything he suposedly created. Sorry, to say that, but we are not the best thing that happened to this planet.

Yes. The concept of a deity, whether Zeus, Jehovah, Allah, or the Flying Spaghetti Monster is more absurd than reality. It really is. Yes, we all believe what we believe, but not all beliefs are equal. Some are more grounded in reality than others. "Intelligent design" is based on no scientifically verifiable reality whatsoever. I do not give a dam about what anyone believes about creation and god as long as they do not expect others to follow in their absurdity. I come in here to argue with them because they are trying to destroy education and science by infiltrating nonsense.

Is God a more absurd answer than pure luck and happen-stance? Yes it is - because so much evidence points to random pattens. Also to add a god adds more than an explication, it adds social control to un-elected, un-representative bigots who have a very constrictive agenda

That's not the point, sweetiepie. The point is, that creationists are making an issue of it. So when something erroneous is proclaimed, the Truth must be Told. Simple.

I'm Catholic, and trust me, the ways of God are mysterious. "Intelligent design" is just another word. That doesn't change how or why anything was done. The non-believers and "scoffers" can sense when a trap is laid. You are trying to convince them intellectually, and you will never succeed. Although God is an intellectual being, He is, above all, a reader of hearts, the Font of Tranquillity. Anyone who agitates, is not of God. It is of the devil. The DEVIL, I say!!!

You're right--no one knows the origin, however there is so much more evidence for evolution, evidence that's been tested over and over again. I'm not hostile to anyone who wants to believe in creationism/ID, as long as they respect my views also. Believe me the "idiot" comments on here are just as much aimed at atheists and non-christians as anyone.

The opposition gets hostile when you want to indoctrinate our children with that crap! We do not all believe what we believe! Some of us, the educated some of us, are convinced by the evidence. Why do you erect " straw men " arguments that you can easily knock down? ( luck and happenstance, indeed!!)
Idiot comments? Compared to your sly verbiage, perhaps?
