All of the troops in both Iraq and Afghanistan are volunteers. Therefore they have chosen to place themselves in positions that leave them injured and disabled! If they were to have remained civilians they would not have been exposed to these situations. It was their own doing that brought these conditions upon themselves so therefore legally they aren't entitled to any disability benefits what so ever!

If they were drafted then they would be entitled to disability benefits! They would then have no choice in being in a combat theater! All that are over there have a choice, and they are choosing badly!

All that are injured and disabled will cost the federal government over 650 billion dollars within their lifetimes. To expect that a marine will be awarded 4000 per month tax free for the rest of his life is unrealistic, and it's not going to happen. Because he was dumb enough to sign up for the infantry and get his butt shot off doesn't mean the taxpayers have to pay for his stupidity!

i see your point, but its very unethical. why should the people who decide to serve the country be punished for it?

no matter if you see it as self inflicted or not.. they deserve to be taken care of after the sacrifice they have given.

I don't even know anyone that gets welfare or any kind of assistance. My great, great grandfather would come back from the grave and beat any one in our family that did accept welfare to within an inch of our lives. We were taught a very strong work ethic from the day we were born almost. We were taught that you had to work for what you get and you must give quality work for the money you are paid.If any of us had a problem,we helped each other .We didn't expect the government to take care of us. I don't like the thought of millions of people of any country legal or illegal on the public dole. But I also know there are people out there that truly need a helping hand.Welfare should be a temporary fix.... not a life style. I would not deny anyone emergency medical care. No one.! But I do not in any way want to see my tax dollars being given to any illegal aliens from any country.

Everyone has a choice as to what job they do. I suppose with your reasoning,a police officer who gets hurt in the line of duty should not get disability either, after all,he chose to do that job. How about a construction worker or a roofer or even a medical person who contracts something from someone they are trying to help. No disability for them either, they should have picked a different job. I truly hope this question is a joke and you don't really think that those who are risking their lives for our country don't deserve their benefits. Last time I checked, they were tax paying citizens too.

Listen here, Jack! Our troops aren't over there to get their bodies blown to hell and their families destroyed so that non-appreciative idiots like you can say that their injuries are self inflicted. They are over there to protect your right to even make that statement. It outrages me that my husband, who has been in the army for almost 19 years, and all those countless other TRUE AMERICANS who have dedicated so much of their lives (not to mention those who have given thier lives) for people like you to not appreciate it a bit. How dare you to even make that statement. You obviously have no clue what it means to the families of these military that you speak against. You have no idea how much it hurts them. You have no idea how much it hurts the people that are serving our country. Or do you just not care? How cold hearted can you possibly be?

What a piece of sh!t question! Self-inflicted means that you directly caused harm to yourself...ie...you shot yourself, you overdosed, you hung yourself. So, yes, if you actually self inflicted a wound to yourself, you shouldn't get disability. But the way you put it is just wrong...most likely your too chickensh!t to serve the very country that allows you to run your mouth like you do.

Soldiers aren't paid very well so I think they should be well taken care of if something happens to them.

Just because a person joins the military to serve his or her nation does not mean any injuries received are "self-inflicted".

Self Inflicted means they personally chose to injure themselves to seek a way out of their job or as a scam to get compensation.

By your reasoning any person in any job or situation regardless of military or civil, deserves no disability entitlement, regardless of the circumstances, because they opted to seek gainful employment instead of staying at home.
