Basically, fear. It is a holdover from the days when witches were persecuted, and Wiccans--witches are synonymous in the Christian mind. Witches were seen as evil, because of persecution that dates from the Inquisition, and that idea still lingers in the Christian churches, unfortunately. It is not likely to be expunged in this generation, either, it has been going on for nearly 2000 years, and that is a long time for an idea to be entrenched. The only thing Wiccans can do is to practice tolerance and hope the Christians learn by example. That involves accepting their right to believe as they do, and to show no prejudice: to do so would make Wiccans just as bad as the ones who persecute them.

Because people tend to be uneducated about any system of belief that differs from theirs, and a good deal of the ones who have done research on other religions have done so only to seek confirmation that they are right, so their "research" is virtually useless. It's like coming up with a scientific hypothesis and then doing research to prove yourself right instead of doing research and then basing your hypothesis off what you discovered; it is in direct defiance of any logic whatever.

And in response to an answer already posted and numerous others that are likely to flood in, one can be a wiccan and also worship Jesus, so no, you actually DON'T know what Wicca is about. Jesus was quite a lot about not kowtowing to the status quo, about questioning dogma, loving others regardless of what they believe and not judging them, and about searching for the truth, so apparently you don't know Jesus, either.

I always think its sad when that happens. Cheer up though! For,

I have always thought that she was a smart lady. Just ignore those that bother you, hopefully they will go away.

Because they've never bothered to really educate themselves on Wicca and how it really works and what we believe. It's easier to watch "The Craft" than it is to read a book or do some quick research on the internet.

They have a superiority complex. If you aren't one of them you are of the devil. We all get lumped into one category. My family is Pentecostal-Evangelical. My brother and his wife look down their noses at me. Like I care. I don't hear from them any more for which I am very thankful. They have real hate in their hearts for us. They will single you out if you are different from them. Don't make their problem yours. Leave it in their laps. They act like they are brain damaged.

A mixture of ignorance & jealousy are the only reasons I can think of. Then add fear. They fear the power of those who are connected with the elements of creation.

Christ the beginning and the end the Alpha and the Omega our Saviour and Lord who has commanded us all to worship no other but him. ( you asked)

And I have studied Wiccan and I do know what it is about.
