Anywhere from a set amount (my hall was 1,000) to a percentage of the expected bill. Depending on the hall. Many want to make sure if your wedding falls through they make some cash off of it.

Plus, if it only cost 100 to reserve it and you found a place you liked better its not much incentive to stay with hall #1

We are currently planning a wedding for our oldest daughter. We have looked at a variety of places from ballroom, hotel, mansion, winery, restaurant, country club, etc and on average we have been quoted total cost for wedding/reception of approximately 100 people between $5,000-$10,000. The costs varied by day of the event (Saturday higher than Sunday) and type of food (plated meal more than buffet) and alcohol being served. Most of the places wanted between $1500-2000 as a non-refundable deposit to hold the date we want.
If you are looking for a location for ceremony only, you might try churches or local parks for the least expensive options. But I think depending on where the park is located, it can still be expensive. When we looked at a popular park near us as an option, it was $800 to use the gazebo near a manmade lake and that didn't include the fee for the adjoining site we were interested in for the reception. Good luck to you.

Well my wedding was only 2000.00 for a descent hall and ceremony, but the reception was 10,000, and that wasn't ALL decked out how I wanted b/c that would of been even more, but it was really close to what we wanted and came out beautifully, my husband and I paid for it too so we know it was worth it.

The church where I'm getting married is free. We'll give them a donation of course, but they're not charging us anything because my fiance's family are members there. The reception hall is $350 for the night. It really depends on where you go and what you want.

for a wedding ceremony it is about $150.00 at a park or a museum. at a church you have to pay for the minister which can be any where from 50-150 and usually use of the church is free.
all depends on where you want it and where you live.
