We know Malachi is the last book in the OT. But what book technically ends the OT narrative?

If you mean, what book covers the most recent historical events, then I would say Ezra and Nehemiah. They are the two post-exilic books of the Old Testament.

The Old Testamnet is not a linear story. Many of the books overlap. The minor prophets are only at the end because...who knos?

I think the least old of the O.T. books is Daniel.
