Has anyone here tried a Red Dot sight before? How do you think it would work on a muzzleloader?(not talking about laser sights)

Red dots are amazing. They are a great device for med to short range. The lack of magnification allows both eyes to be used if desired. The lack of magnification also seems to subdue the overcorrection factor compared to telescopic sights (aka: wavering). Great in low light areas.
However, I missed a nice 10 pt buck at about 85 m standing broadside in a shaded spot once. I shot and he ran off. I couldn't believe I missed. I went over to check on the shot and found a nice hole in a small tree. My point? The lack of magfication doesn't allow one to always see the exact details of where you're shooting. Probably an isolated incident but if you're country is bushy, something to be considered. CC

A holographic red-dot sight is nice for muzzleloaders and shotguns, but try and find one with magnification and a smaller dot that won't obstruct the target too badly.

I had one on my slug gun on and off for a while, and it was nice, but then I settled on a 3-9x Nikon Omni with a BDC reticle. I'm thinking about switching back, though.

I have a tasco red dot on my Neos and I think they would work good. They are not going to give you any magnifaction maybe 2x at the most. Make sure to get a rather sturdy model from Bushnell or something like that. I don't think My tasco could stand the recoil of a 150gr front stuffer.

I use an eotech holo sight on one of my carbines, I like it just fine for around 100 yards, but any farther and I prefer iron sights or a 4x scope.
