Jared has beautiful rings. My step-daughter and her new husband got their's there this summer. They opted for the white gold and they turned out really nice.

go to a LOT of different stores, try on a TON of different rings, then show him what you like - but do give him some options. What I had in my head for what I wanted looked nothing like what I ended up with. Ensure the ring comes with a guarantee, and an appraisal. I would shy away from buying such a valuable item online. Truly take the time to get educated on the types of precious metals and the 4 c's of diamonds, or even if you want a diamond for an engagement ring. The more knowledge you have the better prepared you will be to make a decision. And if the people in the jewelry stores won't help you with information, they don't deserve your business. Ask people you work or go to school with who they would recommend as a jeweler and take your time! You are right, this is something you'll be wearing for your whole life, and you both have to be happy with it. Remember too, size isn't everything - choose a style of diamond you like and work around that. Have fun with the whole process and be patient. Most men haven't a clue when it comes to jewelry - sometimes subtly doesn't work . Once you find 'the ring' with your girlfriends or family members, have someone show him 'the ring' and let him work out the details and surprise you with it! Do keep in mind what his budget is too.

There is a very high markup when buying diamond rings from a jeweler, ur best bet is to visit a wholesale store that deals in loose diamonds, then you can have it mounted into whatever kind of setting u like. Make sure whoever u deal with is reputable and has been in business for some time. Remember, the clearer the stone the higher the price and the cut is important too, it should have at least 64 facets (angles) to give the stone its sparkle. A site to visit on the Internet is www.bluenile.com they have beautiful rings, but I`d rather see it in person as opposed to looking at it on the screen. Take ur time, read up on diamonds before shopping as some have carbon spots and tiny occlusions that can`t be seen with the naked eye, these run much cheaper than a flawless stone. which commands top price. So do ur homework and have fun picking out ur ring.

Go find a good coin dealer... the kind of place you buy gold and silver coins at... a lot of them carry really good used diamond jewelry, mainly for the metal content. You can pick up a diamond ring that might have retailed for $1,000 for maybe $200. You never get your money back out of diamonds.
Another route would be Sam's Club, which certifies the stones and gives a discount.

You can go online and find beautiful rings at great prices. We got my ring from a reputable seller on ebay and paid $300 for a brand new .36 carat, H, SI1 diamond, and I absolutely love it. Once you get the ring, take it to a local jewelry store to be apparised and make sure you got what you paid for. Be sure that the online seller will allow you to return if the item is not what was described.

www.bluenile.com

www.shaneco.com

My ring is from bluenile, I verified that I got what my fiance paid for. The ring is certified and appraised and all that stuff and is a great ring for the money--much better than what you can get at malls and chain stores. Stay away from places in malls--you'll notice that they have very yellow lights to hide the yellow color of their diamonds.

I have friends who also have rings from bluenile.com. It's highly recommended.
