it goes away when i lie down and after dinner. they're usually blocked the worst in early afternoon, and sometimes morning. it sometimes goes away momentarily when i eat. i don't have a cold. any suggestions what it could be?

Sounds like allergies. You could be triggered by trace dust or biological whatever particles in some rooms that are not present in others.
I suggest trying an antihistamine (non drowsy if it's in the day) and see if that clears things up.

My first hunch would be that it relates to altitude changes. But after reading more into your question, now I don't think so.
You could have an ear infection. Do you feel dizzy too and off balance?

I would suggest to go and see the doctor and let him put the instrument with the light into your ears to look at what's going on. You'll at least know if you have an infection or not, which can be easily remedied by a prescription for an Antibiotic.

You may also have a sinus infection or an allergy. Only a doctor could rule all that out or in.

Wax. Same thing happened to me. Went to an ear doctor and he literrally sucked out the wax. It was unbelievable how much better I heard.

you could have alergies like i do. my ear is always clogged. my doctor has me taking Nasonex.
