if so, what will we evolve into? Supposedly, the theory of evolution is based on "only the strongest survive, and procreate, untill the weak are weeded out. Will humans figure out how to make intelligent "computer beings" that will eliminate us? i.e H.A.L from Space oddessey 2000.

what i'm saying is, if we are eliminated, then we won't evolve past that point of "elimination"

Of course evolution will continue. Notice how you're not the exact same person as your parents?
As for making computers that eliminate us all, I really don't see how that's connected to evolution. Anyway, personally I think it's very unlikely.

Evolution is NOT based on "survival of the fittest." That's a term coined by H. Spenser. It's colorful, but not entirely accurate. Evolution proceeds via reproductive fitness. Fitness is a concept that includes the relevant environment (external and internal) in which an organism must live. (If you don't understand that then you need some basic high-school level biology.)

Will humans create artificial intelligence? Got news for you: it's already happening. AI is a research and development has been going on for 50 years. You can already buy primitive AI toys for a couple hundred bucks. Will such devices "elminate" us? Anythinig could happen, but the trend is to supplement our selves with AI prosthetics and servants.

Here's a thought experiment: if an AI device claims that it does not want to be turned off, do you owe it a responsibility to respect it's wishes? Do you have to be a moral agent if an entity requests good behavior from you, even if it is a machine?

Modern culture is affecting human evolution way too much to predict what will happen. For one thing, its no longer that "only the strong survive". Virtually everyone in our culture survives and can have children, even people with serious diseases.
An example of how culture can influence human evolution is our vision. In "the wild", an individual animal with poor eye sight doesnt survive, and thus is weeded out of the gene pool. In modern culture, people just get glasses or contact lenses and they are just as likely to have kids as anyone else, and thus they pass on their genes for bad vision. Over time then, human vision will get worse and it already has. Look around at how many people need glasses. For non human species, having the genes for bad vision is rare, but its become common for humans since people with bad vision have not been weeded out for the past several centuries.

Evolution is a continuing process. There is no predicting what humans will evolve into next...many generations down the line. It depends entirely on the evolutionary pressures bought to bear on us. Right now there is very little selective pressure outside of disease, accident, and predation on one another. An environmental change could seriously alter that.

As for murderous AIs, I certainly hope not. The AIs would be pretty bad off if we weren't around to fix 'em.

Actually (whatever darwin wished to say) i think...
That what survives survives..we may call it the fittest or whatever we think.

Meaning-- the program that begain sometime (we assume the big bang was the starting point) will run on for some time (we assume this because we can see it running now) and will possibly terminate someday (we say this to satisfy ourselves because eternity cannot be easily conceived insided a human head) !
I suggest you don't forget to enjoy the program..and its functions such as a flower blooming or a baby smiling..even while being bothered about what/when/how it began or will end !
Lol !

yes it will continue, just not the way it has been. because of these amazing medical advances, seemingly "weak" people, who in the past would have died due to poor genetics, go on to procreate. so, the "weeding out" doesn't happen much anymore, but yes, we still evolve. the hormones in our foods and the changing weather patterns have a lot to do with our current anatomy. interesting question!

How can evolution be continued if it was not really existed and it is not true that there is evolution of man from apes?

Elimination of men is already under taken by God by way of death however it is not actually elimination because good or bad will die. No one will leave forever in this world even you are the strongest man on earth. The strength you have will turn to nothing in death.

From the beginning of life of your grand father (at the age of 1 month) to his present age (lets say 94 years), did his body change to something? or evolve to something? hahahahahah. What kind of thinking do you have? aaaahhahahahahahahahahahqahahahahahahahahahah

I was told that our evolutionary path is stratifying based on intelligence, or was it beauty.

either way this person told me they heard a theory that eventually there will be two classes based on this...

which I can't necessarily swallow because people have sex and make babies, intelligent people adopt dumb babies, dumb people adopt intelligent babies, it's all screwy.

I think we have stopped evolution, I mean sustaining life long enough to procreate has become dependent on so many things these days, that I don't think it's evolution in action.

I think that we are evolving now days because of the things that man has created or because of our habits. Look at are food supply, many foods have chemicals added to them, and this will effect the body. Plus habits like drug use and other habitual things can effect us as well.

I dont know that humans will continue to evolve in a natural way as the survival of the fitest rarely applies to us anymore now that we dont need to hunt food or fend for ourselves. Human evolution will be dramaticly altered because of the development of technology. And yes it is a possibility our technology will destroy us.
