Absolutely. The problem with today's society is that we try as hard as we can to deny any Spiritual existance, what-so-ever. Any phenomina of the past is shrugged off as a disorder, but guess what, there have been no cures documented in western medicine. Why do people keep forgetting that key note? Probably because we, as a society, are overwhelmed with weak individuals that don't want to take responsibility for themselves which subsequently leaves themselves open to these "possessions" you speak of. If you want to study any form of possession, or schizophrenia/paranoias, study some subculture accounts that dealt with shamans and holistic healing. The cure ratios are surprisingly high!
With Psychology, and the mapping of the brain, we are able to show the "balance" of chemical make-ups and divey out drugs that can maintain this balance. When possessions take place, a definite change in the mind's drug balance takes place. I think that explains why western culture's method of explanation seems so rational to those that seek physical world rationality.
As far as current day possession is concerned the most blatant example is found in alcohol. Look at people, who I hate to say are weak minded... but..., that drink to much and "black out." Their physical vessel goes on auto-pilot mode and they remain completely functional, can hold conversations, maintain motor skills... yet remember NOTHING. This is unexplainable except that they have become embodied by another force of some sort. The Sub-conscious mind? perhaps. Or possibly a possession of some sort. The ties to remember in these circumstances is that majority of these people that fall victim to "black-outs" generally have security issues of some sort as well. So maybe through worrying we open ourselves to greater forces? I don't know... I'm not a psychologist.
Now, though I believe in a higher force in the universe, I'm not so sure there are "realms" of pure evil or "demons." But I do think there are spiritual influences that can affect everyone... ESPECIALLY those that deny them. And that's why god gave us prozac.

Yes I believe it happens today although I hate to say hear of some abuses on the news from time to time by people WHO are trying to use fleshly means to fight a spiritual battle. There was a book written some years ago by the same author of the best selling book The Road Less Travelled. He is a psychologist who didn't believe in such manifestations but put out some kind of add for people to contact him if they believed they had authentic cases of demonic possession. The first two cases he recognized as clinical diseases(conditions) but the third led him to re-evauluate his position. The name of his book is People of the lie by M. Scott Peck. a number of years ago my brother and my father prayed for deliverence for a friend of my brother in the basement of the house in which I resided. The guy was a university graduate from ireland who was at the time working for Bell Telephone Co. I wasn't in the basment with them at the time but I heard noises which sounded like a cougar. They were very loud and realistic sounding. Like you would have thought there was a real cougar in the basement. I was told later he vomitted out sime kind of either gree or red bile.(I don't remember the colour). He claimed afterwords he had been freed from an unclean spirit. I am witholding the persons name as it a personal matter which i would require the person's consent before divulging those kind of details. Edit: Contrary to what Wagashwargarg says real deliverence has nothing to do with money. There is also an author who died in 2003 who believed and paractised deliverence. His name was Derek Prince and he was educated at Eton College and Kings College, Cambridge. He was a scholar of Greek and Latin and took Philosophy specialilizing in logic under Ludwig Wittengenstein. His MA dissertation was titled the evolution of Plato's method of definition which won him a fellowship at the age of 24. In later years he became involved in the deliverence ministry.

I do not believe that demonic or spiritual possession that we see are real. They are all fake, stage managed or cases of mental disorder or results of in-satiated sexual desires. Some cases of possession like symptoms are seen also in malnutrition-ed persons. In the business of exorcism, there is lot of money involved. The stories of possessions is therefore not allowed to die.In some cases of possession, the so said victim, has his own hidden agenda involved. It may be one of the ruse to speak his wants and desires or even for getting others attention for himself.Anyway, it is all fake.

Yes it does.
Possession though is an extreme form of something that is very common that the Bible characterizes in the original language by the verb daimonizomai, which means quite literally to be demonized, or harassed or afflicted by a demon. A demon is a lesser spirit being which can caused physical, mental or emotional torment. Usually demons operate in groups, or gangs.
If you need sound teaching on the subject by a Biblical scholar and a man who helped thousands who were afflicted by demons during his lifetime, may I recommend the works of Derek Prince:

Yes it does. I know it so yes I believe it. It is "demonic" possesion, by the way, cause God's ministering angels do not and will not "inhabit" a person and as I would say in this case at a twelve step, I'll pass on sharing tonight.
God Bless you and guide you into His Truth.

Do you mean is demonic possession real? I think there's some truth to it. There are many things that can't be explained by what we define as reality. The unseen is one of them.

I've never encountered anything I'd consider a demon, but I have seen harmful entities latch onto people on occasion. Ultimately, though, they can't do anything to you without your permission. People should be taught that they are in control of their spiritual self just as they are their physical self.

Yes.
Many individuals who deal with the Occult have experienced demonic influence and on occasion, possession.
The new-age phenomenon of Channeling, is sometimes faked, and sometimes not. When it is not faked, it is a form of demon possession (spirit possession).
Cordially,
