Yes and No, the same problems any city faces are the same New York has but it might be multiplied because of the simple fact that's its New York. All cities are going to produce tourists or visitors that are going to say they had a great time, that to me means sh!t as they've never seen the 'real' New York outside of the clubs and rush of lower Manhattan. All cities have fake poseurs who come here to be artists as if breathing New York air will somehow make them artists even though they had no skill prior to leaving their home town. And lastly all cities are depressing if you sit around doing nothing after a 9-5 during the week and go to the same strip of clubs 3 or 4 times a month, which is how most outsiders end up after coming here in their early 20s to work sh!t jobs while pretending to be a musician, artists , or indie film director and realizing by their early 30s they simply don't cut it .

With that said, New York IS a great city and I'm not really up for moving anywhere else for more than 6 months, but realistically its just as depressing as any other city as YOU have to make you own life , no city can do it for you... So no.. New York doesn't make me feel lonely, cold or depressed..If anyone here feels like that it's because of their problems, not because of the city

Any town or city can be depressing if you're feeling lonely and cold. Anybody's routine can become too much at times. Just because people live in NY doesn't make this any better or worse.

I find NY to be a wonderful place, and when I am depressed, I actually find that a trip into Manhattan lifts my spirits greatly because of all of the energy and culture around me there.

i know of some friewnds who live there that can take either side of this question..it can be lonely 'cause there are millions of people but you mite not know a soul...on the other hand it is so damn lively that if it doesnt get you going than you dont have a pulse... i dont think NYC is routine--probably the last city on the planbet that should be called routine--but if its routines that are getting to somebody in ny than that same person would be bothered by routine anyhwere so you cant blame nyc for that...

New York is cold but lifeful in it's holiday season. Lights are great and people are not so cold as winter that time. Can't the holiday atmosphere cheer everybody up?

If any city is "routine", it's not NYC...

Definitely not depressing - probably one of the most exciting!
