I went to a tattoo shop and looked through the tattoo books...i found an artist i liked that did really good jobs(clean lines, good designs). i went to the person whose name was on the book(person A), they designed my tattoo and everything..they did a beautiful design perfect drawing and everything, but i asked them to do my tattoo when i came back to the shop...but when i did more research, i found out that Person A is not who's work was in that book (probably a mix up). and tattoing isnt really their specialty, they pierce..Its the shop owner i think (Person B). how do i nicely ask to have my tattoo done by Person B instead?

Also, if you are really good at drawing the designs(Person A), does that mean you are also equally good at applying the tattoos?

Sounds like funny business a foot...
Just a polite Ohhell no, should be
enough to get your point across.
I'd check with the better business bureau,
see if there have been any complaints.
Unless you live in a one horse town,
there should be plenty of honest atrist
in your area. Choose one of them.

Hi Alexander,

It's really your choice to choose the artist you want. I think it would be best to explain to them that you intended Person B to tattoo you instead of Person A. Honesty is sometimes the best choice. If these guys are professional, they won't mind.

A person that's good in drawing doesn't make a good artist. There's a huge difference between paper and skin. The texture, softness, etc...

I got a tattoo done while I was on holiday in Bali, Indonesia. Sadly, the tattoo turned out horrible. The lines weren't straight and the shading was badly done. Here's the part you'll find interesting. His shop is plastered with his paintings and sketches. He's done some remarkable stuff on canvas but he sucks when it comes to the human canvas.

You don't happen to be talking about a certain shop in Burlington, NC do you? lol (anyways, long story, same situation)

You just tell them that you would be more comfortable having the tattoo artist tattoo you if Person A is the piercer. Some piercer's tattoo and vice versa, like myself, I'm a piercer, but apprenticing to tattoo.

Just because someone is good at drawing, does not mean that they can tattoo. Drawing is one thing, tattooing is a whole other.

yeah definitely say you would like person B to do it. If you feel more comfortable with person B, ask specifically for him/her. They shouldnt question it if they are a good tattoo shop as it is your skin and you decide who does it and what goes on it. I'm sure they will understand as it seems person B is more experienced then A. And if they do ask say you like person B's style more, or a friend recommended that person.
No, it doesnt mean you will be equally good at doing tattoos if you can draw well, since tattoo machines are a lot more complicated then a pencil and coloring tools.
Good luck!

There is no need to explain why to anyone. Just tell the tattooist you want to do it, that you want HIM to do it. Lots of people are good artists but arn't as good at engraving skin. The other guy has more experience. Believe me, they already know that. You won't hurt anybodys feelings. It's your money and your tattoo. Good luck!

Just tell them how you feel. They'll understand. This will be on your body for the rest of your life and if you're uncomfortable with it, they will be too if they know they're not the one that you want doing the work. So just politely explain yourself. :)

You just have to tell them, they will understand. I'm sure the piercer won't be offended... since they are a piercer first.

Ask to see some of their current work. Pictures and books.

Be honest about your feelings......if ou feel bad about wanting someone else then say that. Tell them you feel horribly ackward, but.......

Ask if you can have the shop owner do the tat. The worst they can do is say no (expect to have to make an appointment though if they say yes).
