My new puppy (a bijon friese) seems to always have poop stuck on the back of her butt. Since her little butt comes in contact with the carpet, furniture, etc. it seems like there's prpbably little poop smears all over the house. When I bathed her today it was really hard to get off as it was stuck to her fur. Does anyone have any tricks as to how to keep this area clean. Am I supposed to clean her butt each time she poops? Sorry to ask a dumb question - this is my first dog ever!

Take her to a reputable accredited PROFESSIONAL groomer/pet stylist (not petsmart or petco) ask them to groom her and do a "poop shoot" for her.
This will remove that hair on that area and you will not have this to contend with. When she is older you will not have to do that.

You will need to have your Bichon groomed on a regular basis... every 10-12 weeks. When they groom her, she will get a "hygiene clipping" around her bum hole. This will keep the poop off of it. If she is too young for a full groom (you want the puppy cut, btw) take her in and have the groomer show you how to safely trim the area. In the meanwhile, get some baby wipes and keep the area clean after each poop. After you have her groomed it will be much easier!

Carefully shave her butt area. I had a Shih Tzu that had the same problem. The vet shaved her butt area, and there was no stuck poop ever since.

Groomers will do what's called a "sanity trim" and trim the fur around the butt to prevent this. You also may want to have her checked out by a vet. Is she having diarrhea at all?

I had a Yorkie and had the same issue.

Take it to a groomer and have her butt hair trimmed. Sounds gross I know but they probably get it all the time.

Good luck

You might want to trim the fur around that area keeping it short. Using baby wipes after she goes would help also.

Don't feel bad and I don't think that this is a dumb question. I have never heard of this before but maybe you should clean her butt whenever she goes poop.

Usually my dog wipes her butt on the grass. You can wipe it for her or either when you bathe her get a bath mitten. I had one that was rubber and had little brush like surface that was good for scrubbing my dog.

Trim the hair in the immediate vicinity to avoid sticky problems.

I would have either a vet, or a groomer show you how to trim the dog's rear. A Bichon Frise has fast growing hair, it makes it much easier to keep tidy when kept short.
