I'm 16 and I just got my driver's permit. Can I drive my mom's car (having her with me) and be covered by her insurance if I am not listed on it?

You don't have to be listed on her insurance until you get your drivers license.

Insurance goes with cars, not drivers. Actually you couldn't be on her insurance at this point even if you wanted to be, since you don't have a license, only a permit and will never be driving alone.

Once you have your license, then it will be time to add you to the policy as a secondary driver.

Well, it depends on what insurance company she has. MOST insurance companies don't insist that you list a permitted driver, only a licensed driver. BUT, some do. You'll have to check with her insurance company to be absolutely sure.

Have your Mother check with her insurance company. Every State I have lived in requires anyone who drives the vehicle to be on the policy. Some companies cover a learner automatically while others do not.

1. YOU WILL HAVE TO NOTIFY THE INSURANCE COMPANY.

2. YOU MUST BE LISTED ON HER POLICY AS WELL.
