I don't know how this happened, but every time I click on the spell check, it's bringing up a U.K. version of spell check. I'm in the U.S. and this is messing with my papers for school. Does anyone know how this happened and how to fix it.

ok I did what these three answers said to do, and all these options were already set.
Question: does it matter that the doc that I'm spell checking was writting by a UK Word software? maybe that's why, my Word is bringing up the U.K. version

In MS Word (XP (2002) or adjacent versions), do this:

1. Click the Tools->Language->Set Language menu option.
2. Find English (US) and select it.
3. Click the Default button.
4. Click OK.

That should do it.

Click start, all programs, Microsoft Office Tools, Microsoft Office XP language settings.

On the Enable Languages tab, make sure the drop-down menu under Default Version of Microsoft Office is set to English (U.S.).
