I don't know how accurate this story is since i heard it from my uncle.
apparently my pops was drunk and may have hit a police officer.
i don't know if he was drunk in public or not but i assume he was , so how long can can i expect to wait to see my father?
If he makes bail how much would it be.
I live in Texas.

P.S. for any officers in here who had to deal with these kind of people in the past, I apologize for my father's behavior.

I am not sure when your Thanksgiving holiday is...if it is tomorrow they may take before the judge on Tuesday. He will enter a plea and bail will be decided. he will have his driver's suspended, told to seek counsel and be given a sentencing date. If he did hit an officer they will hold off sentencing until they know the condition of the officer. Should he have life long problems or if death should occur they want to know what charges to press. They will also probably be an additional lawsuit by the insurance company of the person that he hit to cover medical, damages and personal suffering.

You will most likely not be able to see your dad right now. Any flexibilty that you may have had in getting a quick visit will not be extended because your dad hit a cop. They will be quite upset one of their own have been hurt.

Best thing you can do is call around to bails bonds and see what the procedure is. And also try and get him a good lawyer if he can afford it, if not see who is taking pro bono cases or talk to duty councel at the court house.

And if I may respectfully suggest - maybe a support group for yourself for people whose parents drink. I think in the States is called Al-Anon. People there have been through this and can give you good information but more importantly give you support during this tough time.

Sweet of you to apolgize on your father's behalf...but that isn;t your job. That will be your father's when he gets out.

Chin up - this will get dealt with.

hit a police officer? with what? fists, car?
usually a bail is set for this offense weather a police officer or citizen.

depending on how drunk he was will determine the time to be spent in jail to sober up.

he could be out tonight if bondable or bailable?

if not Mon after arraignment before a judge with in 24 hrs of arrest excluding weekends and holidays.

p.s. why do you apologize for him? he is guilty not you? you have done nothing that could be done to avoid what your dad did. just get him some treatment or help--drinking is a serious problem.

I don't know how long he will have to stay in jail
as each state is so different.
My mom really hurt an officer she was drunk and saw
an officer questioning a guy hitchhiking.
it was not pretty ...
anyway it is not your fault about your you cannot
be responsible or control another person's actions.
He may have to spend the night in what they call the
drunk tank.
Good luck.

He will have to wait till monday or possibly tuesday the latest, well if he hit a police officer he will probably stay a bit longer. but if its only a DUI he will be out quick. u will be able to see him or talk to him. make sure he shows up to court.
