i would ring the police and tell them where their bike was,if i explained that i was drunk and i thought the fresh air would help me would they be understanding.

With the cost of the bikes that the police use being what they are, what you did is a felony. They would be glad to get their bike back, but even more glad to throw you in jail for it.
