China has been purchasing Russian missiles and fighter planes. In addition, China has nuclear missiles capable of striking cities in the US. While the United States can easily overwhelm Chinese forces, America cannot invade China because there is over 1.5 billion people living in China. If Taiwan declares formal independence, then China would go to war against the US. Remember China has no aircraft carriers but US does have 11 carriers. There is already a war in Iraq and there will a military draft if US goes to war with China.

The Republic of China (Taiwan) has always been a steadfast ally of the United States, even when it controlled much of mainland China, so I definitely think so.

I don't think America will have to invade mainland China, at the current rate, the People's Republic China will fall apart from the inside, much like Soviet Russia did in the 90s. If the People's Republic of China does however invade the Republic of China (Taiwan) the United States Seventh Fleet will definitely come to their aide. China would be committing political and military suicide if it invaded Taiwan, which is why it hasn't yet.

You have some fallacies, the People's Republic China has roughly 1.3 billion people, and the United States Navy has more than 11 carriers.

Sounds like you are itching for us to take on China. Of course, with the exception of Tibet, there is not one instance of the Peoples Republic of China being aggressive towards any other nation. Even in matter of peace enforcement resolutions coming before the UN Security Council the Chinese have always abstained until the last one directed at Iraq.
Taiwan is now and has been since 1949 a portal to better things for the elite of the Communist Party. The boys who sit around that fancy conference table in Beijing are not anxious to blow up their candy store. And China has no amphibious warfare capability. They did a recent test and it turned out pretty poorly .

well, the legal situation is a tad sticky. we have a treaty saying we'll defend Taiwan against mainland chinese aggression, and we have another agreement with china that flys into conflict with the treaty (i think we signed it for trade). otherwise...

Taiwan is a free democratic Asian economic powerhouse and ally; China is Communist, has human rights issues, and clearly only likes us as a consumer. if china invades en masse (no time like the present, with Iraq and Afghanistan keeping the US busy), then we may have to pull out of "the land between two rivers" and attack China. and we cant easily overwhelm china anymore. arms dealers and spies working for china have been stealing american military technologies for years, smuggling UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter engines, AEGIS, and other such things to china, where the military is modernizing. point is, an east asian war will be one hell of a mess.

This is a scary thought. I feel for Taiwan. I can't figure out why we even do business with China. How many recalls of toys and other things have there been. What a mess it would be if we did go to war against China. But we do have one heck of a military. Hope they get them before they fire those missiles. But Taiwan is a good Country. Then, wouldn't we have to think about Russia butting in? Not sure, just crossed my mind. We just might have to go for it. What else could we do? Pull our soldiers out of Iraq for a bit? Now you have my mind racing.

are you kidding? taiwan is merely known by utilising some african and asian international locations that are too vulnerable to electrify the international what so ever. Taiwan is referred to as a province of China by utilising 2 hundred+international locations consisting of US, Russia, finished Europe, and different enormous international locations. flow teach your self. i think of you're purely some stupid taiwanese student that fake to correctly known the understanding which you easily have not got any concept approximately. i in my opinion think of taiwan is the sole province that rather thinks t isn't a element of china

no war with china. Taiwan is fine on its own and its technically separate from China. If we go to war with china, china can pull of of the American currency they own and we would go into another great depression. and i don think anyone wants to be out of money

Taiwan claims that it IS formally dependent, which China disputes.

We tried defending Taiwan once. That war didn't go so well.

Taiwan is fine anyway. China isn't planning any major offensive, and buying weapons in any country is not a big deal.

Focus on realistic threats to peace, not iamgined ones.
