What is the harm/ benefit of getting enrolled in EFMP? I have an anxiety disorder, but I'm considering lying to my EFMP screener so that I don't get enrolled in the EFMP program. (I am the wife of a service member, by the way.) We have orders to PCS to Hawaii, and I'm wondering if my disclosure of this information will screw up our orders? So, should I just lie & say nothing about my anxiety disorder to the EFMP screener. (All of my therapy & treatment has been through civilian providers, so there is no record of it in the MTF system. In other words, it would be easy to lie about it.....)

Thanks for any info!

Do not lie. You owe it to your family to be stationed at a place that can provide the medical care to take care of their needs.

It is far better to be honest. HA has plenty of services, so there is not going to be any major issue with anxiety disorder and being sent there. However, in the future, you could get orders to some of the more remote bases where off base services are limited or sent overseas, where off base is totally unavailable. At that point, you would have to use military providers and not all bases have good mental health services or have very limited availabilty for spouses. In those cases, sending you someplace where you can't get the help you need would be unfair to you and your family, as well as dangerous for your health. This is what enrolling in EFMP is meant to prevent...sending you someplace where you would be stuck without the support you need. Yes, that may limit where your husband can be sent, but it is better that than getting orders and then having to get emergency orders back to the states when you find yourself without access to a therapist.

Also, Tricare actually has very good coverage for mental health and emotional issues...you don't need a referal for the first 8 sessions and after that your therapist only needs to submit occassional reports. You can get approval for up to two sessions a w eek for up to 6 months at a time. You would need to use a therapist who is Tricare certified, but if you do so you won't have to pay anything for your treatment. I have been in therapy for the past four years and have never had any problems with treatments being covered.

Do not lie. The EFMP process is very important. Why would you move some where and not know if you will get the proper medical care? EFMP ensures that the proper resources are available for you.

You will need your records from your civilian care taker before seeing another doctor or you will have to start the diagnosis process over again. This is a long and painful process that you will not want to go through again.

Like Yak Rider said, it will only affect you if you are going to an "exotic" location. Though I do know that my friend's family couldn't go to Japan after his daughter was diagnosed with multiple learning disabilities. They were still able to go to Germany, though.

I do wonder why you would be using civilian doctors instead of the military medical plan. Tri-Care kind of stinks, but I'm sure you know they would pay for certain treatments and doctor visits, though they are kind of cheap on the therapy (I am also married to an Army soldier and have an anxiety disorder).

Frankly, I would only sign up with EFMP if you don't want to go certain places that would be determined to not have the facilities. The programming is more focused on children and their educational needs to be honest.

It shouldn't matter with orders to Hawaii. I'm sure there are facilities to adequately treat an anxiety disorder. If you had more exotic orders, like Misawa or Sasebo, it might prevent you from going and require a new set of orders.

Lying is never a good idea.

well, how badly do you want to take the chance that your treatment will get hosed by lying? what happens when you get sent somewhere where you cannot get the treatment you need? do you really want to run that risk? are you willing to foot the entire cost of the treatment out o fpocket because TRICARE won't authorize treatment if you do not have any record and your PCM has not authorized specialists?

Don't be stupid and take chances with your health.

No!!! dont lie!!! it wont effect your orders unless you ask for it too! i know that they have good healthcare there in hawaii and the only reason they would keep you here is if you have a specialist here that deals with your case already.

my son is in the EFMP program and the only reason they changed my husbands orders is because we told them that my son needed to stay here so that he could see his specialist.

and btw. they can get your health records. your PCM has them.
