I don't know a whole lot about how the 4ss. of God treats their members. I know nothing at all about the Oneness Pentecostals. However, if either of these groups, or any group, use "Lifton's Eight Criteria" then they are a cult.

This is a somewhat different issue, but I have heard a lot of concerns about the 4ss. of God church being "dominionist," in other words, that they are working to set up a theocracy here and now. With political policies like that, I would not be very surprised if they are cultic, too.

There is a link below explaining a bit about dominionism and the 4ss. of God churches. About halfway down it describes some coercive practices this group uses which apparently were started by pastor Paul Yonggi Cho, who is the head of a very influential church within the Assembly.

Yes, they are pentecostal. The A/G, United Pentecostal, Four Square and Oneness Pentecostal all came out of the Azusa Street revival in California at the turn of the 19th century. The services are either very ordered or pretty chaotic, depending on whether or not there is a "revival" going on or what the senior pastor is like. I put "revival" in quotes because sometimes they aren't actually revivals but orchestrated by the pastoral staff. Really -- I used to be on staff at an A/G church, so I have first-hand experience with this. There is just a ton of pressure to exhibit gifts of the spirit like tongues and prophesy to the point where people subconsiously fake it so that they aren't ousted. It was REALLY bad during the Brownsville Revivial in the 90s because the executive presbyters would question any A/G church that didn't experience revival.

As a member of an Assemblies of God....we are NOT a cult but we are Pentecostal.

Oneness is closer to Jesus Only beliefs.

Honey I started out baptist and to most the denominational churches ALL pentecostals are cultish and crazy including your church.
However, GOD lead me OUT of denominationalism.
I want to ask you a few questions.
1.Is JESUS "GOD the FATHER incarnate
2.god the son incarnate
3. GOD the HOLY GHOST incarnate
For the CORRECT answer see Isaiah 9:5-6 and John 14:7-11
Who was the FATHER of JESUS?
1.GOD the FATHER
2.GOD the HOLY GHOST
3Joseph
For the correct answer see Matthew 1:18
When you can quit bashing other folks beliefs and be a little open minded the LORD can teach you a LOT!

I think Assemblies of God believes in the trinity.

They do believe in baptism (Father Son and Holy Ghost) and speaking in tongues, receiving the Holy Ghost. They also believe in the interpretation of tongues.

Additionally, it has been my experience that they don't put great importance on not wearing pants, makeup, jewelry.

I have visited an Assembly of God or two, and though I am not completely comfortable with some of their practices, i did not see indications that they are a cult.

Cordially,

I WAS A MEMBER OF THE A/G CHURCH . STARTED GOING THERE WHEN I WAS 18 YEARS OLD .AM 48. NOW THE CHURCH HAS TURNED TO THE( NEW AGE) RICK WARREN PHILOSOPHY. I READ THE BOOK AND TALKED TO MY PASTOR ABOUT IT . TIME WENT BY . AND I WAS ASKED NOT TO COME TO CHURCH ANY MORE . WHEN I READ THE BOOK I COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT I WAS READING !AND I COULD NOT BELIEVE THIS BOOK GOT INTO MY CHURCH . THERE WERE ALL KINDS OF BIBLICAL FLAWS . THE BIGGEST ONE WAS FOUND IN PAGE 285 RICK SAYS THAT WHEN BIBLE PROPHECY WAS TALKED ABOUT TO JESUS . HE SWITCHED THE CONVERSATION TO EVANGELISM ! THAT'S NOT WHAT MATTHEW 24. SAYS! AM WARNING EVERY ONE BE CAREFUL . THE LORD TOLD US TO WATCH AND LET NO MAN DECEIVE US . FOR MANY WILL COME IN MY NAME AND DECEIVE MANY . THE LEADERS HAVE TUNED INTO A CELTIC TYPE RULE . I SAY THIS BECAUSE THE BODY OF CHRIST HAS BEEN OVERLY CONTROLLED AND THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING . THEY HAVE PUT JESUS CHRIST IN A BOX .
