No. A passport identifies you as a citizen of a particular country. A green card is more like a visa, or more correctly a permit, which allows you to live or work in the US.

Eligible immigrants receive green cards.

A green card (Form I-551) is a document of identity bearing that designation issued to an alien who is lawfully admitted for permanent residence. An alien with a green card may live and/or work in the U.S. permanently.

The term "passport" means any travel document issued by competent authority showing the bearer's origin, identity, and nationality if any, which is valid for the admission of the bearer into a foreign country.

They are issued by two different countries and serve two different purposes. They are not interchangeable.

green cards show that you moved here from another contry, and now you have the legal right to live here. A passport is a document that shows the country you originate from, hence giving you the right to enter the country you came from after you return.

no i have a green card.
i'm french and i moved here when i was 7. ever since i've had a green card, which allows me to get a job, yet not be a citizen of the u.s. it also allows me to remain a citizen of france while being a resident of us. also when i travel, this card comes in handy because i don't have to fill out all the useless costum papers and everything else.
