"Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins, and save us from the fires of Hell, and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need of your mercy."
This is one of the prayers of Fatima that Our Lady gave to three children in 1916.
Now, a neutral ground in Hell has been postulated by theologians (not to mention by the poet Dante in his "Inferno"). This is hypothetical, since Jesus has not revealed the full workings of Hell.
For me, however, a neutral ground is hard to imagine, since it seems that any total deprivation of God would be painful beyond description. "Goodness" is God, and evil is the deprivation of that good. Any good that anyone does or is, is done or exercised as an act of being through and in and as the grace of God. Atheist, Hindu, Christian or otherwise, this is true from all, since any evil is a lack of God. To lack all good would be to lack even the goods of sanity and comfort.
However, I may be mistaken, since the Scriptures do speak of levels of damnation. It is possible that those in Hell still participate in some of the goodness that comes through participation in order (which in turn comes from God). Perhaps there is something to the hypothesis that there are those who do not suffer what is analogous to physical pain in Hell, but merely suffer privation of love. This is difficult for me to explain, because I'm not as theologically adept as I need to be.
But whatever there is, it would not be possible for God to make it any other way; this is the best possible universe, and God cannot make something better than the best, simply because reason (which has its origins in the immutable God) forbids it.

It's more than that, they weren't convinced of Jesus becuz something in them deep down did not recognize the innate connection between what Jesus did, and the meaning of Life.
There's a few verses in the Bible that say:
12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.
You cannot say that you love if you are willing to accept the death and seperation with the one you love because that is DEATH it's Living Death, like this world is. And you cannot say you love if you do not want to be one with them and united.
So all self righteous people can do all the good works they want but it cannot escape death which is the TRUE TEST of Love, there is NOTHING you can do -
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God IS Love.
9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
I am the Resurrection and the LIFE -
if you believe that Christ rose from the dead, you believe that TRUE LOVE exists, Becus then death DOES NOT exist and the Lord is in you.

Firstly, I don't believe in the traditional "hell" because it is a post-biblical construct that misrepresents the biblical texts. I believe all the dead, righteous and unrighteous alike, go to sheol (i.e. the grave) at death until resurrection, which is not a place of torment.
Secondly, I remain agnostic on what will happen to the unrighteous, unfaithful dead on the Day of Judgment. I believe it is most likely that they will simply be destroyed, rather than tormented for an eternity.
Thirdly, recently there was a question on yahoo answers asking what one would wish for from God if he granted one wish, and I answered I would wish for all of humanity to eventually enter New Jerusalem after resurrection (even if they must be punished first, of course). I'd rather have all humanity obtain New Jerusalem rather than some obtain a middle ground.
In the end, God is judge, so what I want will not matter. I trust he will be just and give people what they deserve, though I HIGHLY doubt anyone deserves eternal torment.

I wish it could be like that sometimes, but it's not. It's a one way ticket: HEAVEN OR HELL! I pray as much as I can, I am just trying to live right. Christians are humans like everybody else, I call myself a Christian because I believe in Christ. But a true Christian lives by not having a carnal mind or participating in any of the things of this world that will ruin your salvation the chance of entering into the Kingdom of Heaven. I want to be more Christ like, in spirit, mind, and no fleshy ways that can harm my spiritual walk with my Christ.
Satanist do the same, they seem to be obedient or else be tortured, what an ugly way to live. To think it's healthy to live in the world of lies, sickness, disease, pain, confusion, fear, addiction, torture, destruction, bondage, prostitution, insanity, and he has a prison cell for all his members. How awful, darkness is ugly, no light in the underworld but hurt, pain, and fear 24/7. The Wicca people don't have an idea of what they are getting into, more lies created by the God of lies, SATAN...
My Lord is about LOVE, he is the ALPHA THE OMEGA THE BEGINNING AND THE END...
Wow, see why I am a Christian, because that's ugly! So I will continue to pray for a better world. I love my LORD, KING OF KINGS, my Christ...

Sure-to your opening question.
But if people are wicked and know that they are and Love to be against God then why would He want to let them into a lukewarm place. They choose their own destination.
So this is sort of a twisted question/answer because I feel heartache for wicked people and think if they know of Jesus and everything that pertains to life and salvation and still rejects it As what us Believers think as truth (Jesus the Only Way, truth and Life), then its up to God to determine the end result and punishment.
I was very abused as a child and I forgive my dad But I would probably commit judgment(and it would be painful for him) if I didn't have the fear(reverential) of the Lord and know that God will have His wrath. I can not be forgiven if I didn't forgive my dad.

Well JESUS is GOD in the flesh (1 Timothy 3:16) GOD did die for our sins (1 John 3:16) It was also for instruction sake. HE came to teach the apostles and all HE came in contact with the methods of being an effective follower of CHRIST. This is how we get our salvation instruction (Acts 2:38), and our knowledge of what is right and wrong.

YES, OF Course....That is our Mission. That is why we do what we have been instructed by God to Do...."Go Ye into the Highways, The Byways, and the Hedges, and compel (BEG) Them to come in, so my House will Be Full" >> Then they HEAR about the Saving Grace Of Jesus, and escape HELL, If They ACCEPT HIM....IT IS THEIR CHOICE.

Bigotry in religion knows no bounds.
Religion is one of the most archaic belief systems that is opposed to change, including updates in moral thinking.
I'm not quite sure how to rationalize that eternal torture is justified in any circumstance, but leave it to religions to find a way... Fear mongering and ignorance do not help a society.
